South Western Railway - Trainee Driver Vacancies (Farnham/Guildford/Wimbledon/Woking)

Well guys and girls, I’m in (pending medical obviously), with a start date of 7th Jan :D It has been a real rollercoaster ride of courage too as this is not only an entire career change for me, but I’m also having to take a substantial pay cut to enable this to happen. Good luck to all those...

South Western Railway - Trainee Driver Vacancies (Farnham/Guildford/Wimbledon/Woking)

All gone a bit quiet on here again. Anyone else heard anything more? MMI/DMI invites etc?

South Western Railway - Trainee Driver Vacancies (Farnham/Guildford/Wimbledon/Woking)

Absolutely. I wonder how many vacancies will be available at each depot. Did anyone else see that they advertised trainee train drivers for Bournemouth depot yesterday? I don’t think it was listed for more than about six hours before it was already gone from the website!

South Western Railway - Trainee Driver Vacancies (Farnham/Guildford/Wimbledon/Woking)

Yep, DMI is last hurdle. Everything else done and dusted. This is my second DMI, as it’s for a different depot to the one I originally applied for.

Received an email last week; DMI booked for later this month.

Junior Driver - DB Cargo UK

Makes you sound like the sort of person who’s wife would be glad you went away so it wasn’t assumed she’d be having to cook dinner for you. Lol.

Junior Driver - DB Cargo UK

There was a question on the application form asking if you’ve passed the assessments and if so, when, so I just entered the information in the relevant boxes. I also attached my CV which contains a wealth of safety critical work experience. Yep, the person who’s been invited for interview is...

Junior Driver - DB Cargo UK

Whats the average wait time from initial application to hearing anything? I applied for JD at Eastleigh - with all my tests passed including DMI with a TOC that I'm now sat in a pool awaiting a course, but no definitive idea of when a course will be available - and then I hear that someone with...

South Western Railway - Trainee Driver Vacancies (Farnham/Guildford/Wimbledon/Woking)

I wonder if this is in connection with them only picking the top scorers, as per the automated email that was being sent out following the two tests, or, was it the content of your accompanying application? There is apparently no consistency or continuity across TOCs/FOCs in their selection...

Trainee Driver - DB Cargo - Various locations.

Could be that my colleague has misinterpreted things, but the individual lives in Didcot. Whether they choose to work permanent nights, or that was the contract at the time of employment (been doing it for 10 years) I don’t know. They have a varying pattern of destinations, into London, down to...

Trainee Driver - DB Cargo - Various locations.

It depends. A lot of DB driver work is permanent nights and often time away from home. That life doesn’t suit everyone. A work colleague’s neighbour drives for DB, usually long-haul, often away from home entirely during that time, and only driving at night. He does a week on and then has a week...

Trainee Driver - DB Cargo - Various locations.

It appears a lot of TOCs/FOCs now use the former - an automated close off once a set number of applicants have applied. Those with online tests as part of the initial application process can even automatically weed out those who are complete non-starters. I suspect the same applies if a large...

South Western Railway - Trainee Driver Vacancies (Farnham/Guildford/Wimbledon/Woking)

Doesn’t apply to me, but an interesting and rather disappointing response for anyone who applies but hasn’t already progressed through the process with a previous application. “......Whilst we endeavour to progress everyone who passes their online assessment to the next stage of the process...

SWR still need more drivers, but at the moment there is a bottleneck with existing trainees because of the DI shortage. A friend of mine who’s a trainee at Basingstoke, said his DI now has three trainees!

    DMI interviews

I’m guessing probably around six months, maybe. I did mine back in January. I didn’t realise DMIs had any expiry date, but maybe that’s purely an individual TOC thing. I just wondered if any existing drivers might know why a DMI would even have an expiry date.

    DMI interviews

Anyone else here who’s been in their TOCs talent pool (for a number of months) waiting for a course, but then told they’ll need to do another DMI as their previous one will have expired? Everything else (assessments, MMI) remain valid, so why is another DMI required?
