SWR install barriers at Portsmouth Harbour despite Wightlink protests

Story in the local rag this morning concerning barriers being installed at Harbour. https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/business/portsmouth-harbour-station-s-new-security-gates-sparks-row-between-transport-firms-1-8723412?fbclid=IwAR3DojZeYKjqDGa_qYxUUfHAV5s7xOy3bbXe8as0fUneuMElzuLQ923Ed50...

SWR - Portsmouth and Bournemouth lines closed this am [23/11]

Birds do not always equal pigeon. Having been a passenger hitting a pheasant at 70 on the road, I can only imagine hitting it at line speed. Let's be honest, would you want to be on a train where the driver can't see through his smashed and...ahem...decorated screen, potentially missing signals...

    Trainsplit help!

All I can advise as a total amateur, is to book the split separately (I know this is a pain as Trainsplit usually does it all for you). I found out the splits by carrying on the process one more step to see the details of travel. Thinking aloud, perhaps book both halves (Stafford to Moor Street...

    Trainsplit help!

I'm no expert on Trainsplit, but I got it to display a longer layover at Moor Street, but not only adding the extra change time into the via box, but also adding the same 90 mins into the general extra time box on the lower right of the advanced options. Not sure if both is redundant, or just...

    Circuititious Routeing

Was once offered Portsmouth Harbour --> Derby, via Bristol TM with NRE itinerary. Was sorely tempted as the advance offered was much cheaper than the single change at Winchester I went for.

"Southern Daysave" and Gatwick Express Gatwick to Brighton

NRE shows a restriction code: DS My bold. Now, the key question is, what is the contractual definition of "Train Operator", is it Southern, or Govia as a whole? I would say train operator is analogous to TOC, ergo, it would be Govia, who operate multiple franchises. Enforceable?

TRIVIA: Hardest Rail lines to reinstate

Not to mention destroying the cycle sheds, rebuilding the level crossing on New Lane, cutting alongside the newbuilds, tearing up the Billy trail and running through protected areas...Perfectly reasonable :D

"Allow less time to transfer through London" problem

I would guess, and am happy to be corrected, that it's due in part to layout of the station, and possibly being some distance from the underground entrance to the platform. For those people who may not be used to London, it can take a minute to orientate yourself.

    Wrongly Assumed Facts by Passengers

Hmmm...apart from ticket = seat, advance ticket itineraries are flexible and it's only the reservation that's set, so they can travel on any train/route they choose. Locally speaking, London Terminals (route Southern only) also means SWR to Waterloo because it's quicker. Any reason for...

Trivia: Longest time to travel between stations less than 2 miles apart

Rowlands Castle - Warblington (3m70ch from railmiles) Change at Havant, anything up to 1hr 1min, walking about the same based on Google Maps. Half an hour by bus.

Old school stations from a Virgin Conductor

I've too heard Worthing Central from staff, I guess due to local working etc, it's become a clear definer between East, West and...well, central. Also, Chi(chester), Pompey (I guess with most tickets being issued to Portsmouth Stns, it's not an issue), and overheard recently: "Hello mate, return...

The Queens starts her Christmas holiday

As an adjunct to this, I was surprised to learn HM used SWR to travel down to Portsmouth for the HMS Queen Elizabeth commissioning. I can't find it but there is a photo of her walking through Portsmouth Harbour ticket office...although AFAIK it is unbarriered due to the Wightlink terminal.

Rail Gourmet, how does it work?

Just a theory, having worked in Stock Control for a large supermarket, and seeing the types of information a modern till system can provide, and how that ties into replenishment. Bit different to RailGourmet, and no doubt their margins are tighter.

Rail Gourmet, how does it work?

I would assume it's based on sales history and algorithms. Example: 6 weeks prior, 1.4 chicken sandwiches, 0.3 cheese sandwiches sold on average on the service; 1 chicken sandwich stocked only, figures being rounded down etc. I guess it's "we'd rather miss a sale, than have wastage"

GTR attempting to charge passengers extra due to timetable change (services switching route brand)

Does this mean we are in another GatEx situation, where the restriction effectively means nothing, no matter what Govia say?

Incident between Guildford and Havant - all lines blocked 2017-11-30 17:00

Thinking aloud, driver believes they've hit person on the line. BTP search scene, find no person and only evidence is the bag. So line released to re-open without need for repairs and cleanup? BTP enquiries find individual. I assume apart from the trespass, would there be any possible charge of...
