    Frankfurt Main Hbf - Pickpockets

Agreed, while it’s very far down my list of favourite European stations I am hesitant to be too harsh on Frankfurt Hbf when you get much the same type of people hanging outside all the entrances to Glasgow Central and not just late at night. Actually even more intimidating I would say as some of...

    Does anybody not fly?

Yes I concur. The further you are from St Pancras the less appealing rail to the continent gets even to someone who loves travelling that way. My last trip from Glasgow to Rotterdam, my Avanti service into Euston was 70 minutes late resulting in a very stressful experience even with more than...

What flights used Stansted before Ryanair

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how frequently the Stansted Express ran in the early days with much lower airport passenger numbers?

What flights used Stansted before Ryanair

Not forgetting that Air UK became KLM UK and it set up Buzz to compete against Ryanair / Go / easyJet in 1999, later bought out by Ryanair while GO was purchased by easyJet from BA. Since mojo asked about connections that was also used slightly more recently! Air Berlin who were a “full service...

    Ryanair - orders strategy

There‘s actually five operating carriers in the group now. Buzz with Polish registered aircraft, Lauda Europe with Maltese registered, the original Ryanair DAC with Irish aircraft, Ryanair UK, and Malta Air. Most of planes wear the original Ryanair livery with only a few in Malta Air and Buzz...

    Birmingham Airport Delays on Departure

Sounds dreadful, used to use Birmingham regularly and it was usually rather stress free. Even Manchester which was a hotspot for this sort of thing is now claiming to have most passengers queuing for less than 15 minutes, so perhaps Birmingham will be bottom of the rankings this year.

    British Airways

Aer Lingus via Dublin is a better option if you ask me, using the transit time in Dublin to go through the US pre clearance there and arriving as a domestic passenger into NYC. There‘s also Icelandair via Reykjavik.

    Jet2 orders more planes

Jet2 have nailed the experience on the ground I find by employing their own staff in their uniform who are pleasant and helpful. No stressed out boarding agent stood at the gate with a credit card machine like easyJet and Ryanair. However, onboard I find they are all rather similar, in fact I...

    Flixbus Discussion

Completely agree, especially since they charge to select a specific seat. Either enforce it like an airline or scrap it. it’s a complete hassle for customers to have to constantly ask people to move or have drivers blocking the seat they selected.

    Jet2 orders more planes

Jet2 sell a lot of their seats as part of a package holiday, they are more like a classic charter airline in that respect and closer to TUI than Ryanair. I find they are usually undercut by other budget airlines if you just want a flight although there will always be exceptions to this where...

Tourism : Hidden Gems within the UK .. where ?

I find the Forest of Bowland in Lancashire to be rather underrated compared to the more famous areas with some great scenery, excellent walks and lovely villages.

    New security scanners

In terms of UK regional airports, both Aberdeen and Teesside have completed the roll out and now scan all bags using the new scanners.

    Blackpool North platform staff

I used the station regularly for over 15 years and they have always run the place like that. I was a regular commuter for a while and they were always pretty friendly and relaxed to the regulars (including having all the doors open in the morning if I recall correctly) but if you’re a visitor...

Catering on short-haul services (or light rail/trams/metros) - could it work?

If I recall correctly, Scotrail still had a trolley on some of the express services on the 385s prior to covid.

    Plusbus farce at Glasgow Central

I can’t speak for the larger stations where there is maybe more politics involved, but I have been assisted with a couple of TOD issues and long-distance bookings by Scotrail staff at Glasgow suburban stations without issue. There’s one member of staff who regularly works at Exhibition Centre...

    Flights you have been on

In my experience, BA never checked my ID flying domestically prior to their policy change. I would just board with my mobile boarding pass and do the biometric scan at Heathrow. I have had to show my ID since their policy change, every time. Interestingly, easyJet still don’t seem to routinely...

    Flights you have been on

No actually, Ryanair will officially take driving licenses (and other photo ID) on UK domestic flights now but not to ROI. I have flown both from Edinburgh to Newquay and Stansted on my driving license last year no issues. The conditions have carriage have been updated on their website, but...

Restore Your Railway - South Fylde

I guess if it were more frequent it might see more use and attract users from the buses. There’s 3 buses an hour for most of the day on the Stagecoach 68 between Preston and Blackpool, and that more than doubles up between Blackpool and Lytham with all the additional services from Blackpool...

    Closest London airport to Southampton

Bournemouth is also a quick airport to get through in my experience, on a par with Southampton. Shame about the relative lack of public transport access though. I imagine the Ryanair service from there to Scotland has also affected the Loganair loads.

    EMR refusing Scottish money

My preferred payment method for pretty much anything now is card, but I reserve my Scottish banknotes for taxi drivers in (southern) England with signs on their vehicles saying cards accepted but then want cash, soon gets their card machines working again..
