Well, I literally crossed the Schengen border today, walking across from Germany into Luxembourg. No sign of anyone checking anyone in either direction.
As I said in my post, the train ran slow to Eschweiler, I'm assuming to allow the police time to get through the train. That accounted for most of the delay, not the stop itself.
So I caught an ICE from Brussels earlier today. In the DB site there's a note on each of these trains to the effect that there will be border control checks after Aachen. The arrival time in Cologne is adjusted by 10 minutes. What happens is that the police get on the train at Aachen ie after...
Racegoers are as bad as, if not worse than, other groups. Travelling through York before or after a race meeting can be a very unpleasant experience.
And my experience at travelling in the quiet areas on German trains is that the locals are no more observant than British people are. There's...
Thanks for the video and explanation. As an occasional reader I find wading through umpteen pages of posts to establish a few basic facts a bit time-consuming so your summary is welcome and useful.
I share this superpower, though it extends to the UK as well. I can almost guarantee that within minutes of arriving somewhere new I'll be stopped and asked for directions or travel information.
I think that's highly likely. The number of people waiting for the Lübeck train was already quite high when the Schwerin train came in (and was held as mentioned above) but most of those on that train seemed to get off and cross the platform to wait for the Lübeck train. I wonder if journey...
Heh! I wish I'd read this when it was posted as I was on the train from Bad Kleinen (RE 13088) that forms this one a couple of days later and it was exactly the same. I don't think anyone was left on the platform but it was certainly an uncomfortable journey and took ages to load. I could easily...
The only time I visited that place it was in August and they wouldn't let you sit inside, only outside, which was annoying as I really don't like sitting outside. Then when I ordered a wheat beer which was supposed to be their own they returned with a Paulaner claiming they were out of their...
As a regular train traveller I didn't know this until very recently when an announcement on an LNER train explained it, pointing out that it applied throughout the train and not just in designated quiet areas. Perhaps if that was done more often then there would be fewer problems.
I'm sorry I can't help @EastYorksLad but I just wanted to say how sad I was reading your post and that I hope you find what you are looking for and that life is much better for you now.
