Our new ticketing site is now live! Using either this or the original site (both powered by TrainSplit) helps support the running of the forum with every ticket purchase! Find out more and ask any questions/give us feedback in this thread!
Oh yes, this way is nicer without a doubt. Especially as I can claim back the entire (not inconsiderable) price of the ticket. I suspect they will push back, but once this train has arrived at Fort William I will fire off an email along these lines, unless anyone wishes to make any suggestions.
Last night we were sheduled to travel on the 21.15 Caledonian Sleeper from Euston to Fort William. We were in coach D, but coach D was out of service (and I can confirm that it was missing from the rake). So they moved us onto the 23.45 to Glasgow, and thence onto the 08.22 Scotrail service from...
This is an interesting one. It's certainly simple to do without split tickets, but how do you do it with splits? Splits are tied to specific train patterns and specific times (peak/off-peak/super off-peak etc). It would be no good offering a split combination that would work only occasionally...
You can get as far as Pontypool and New Inn on a ticket from Paddington via Hereford. That's probably the cheapest split, unless there are good advances.
TimetableHistory.com might be a source of information for you. For example, http://timetablehistory.com/Station.aspx?StationID=3159&Date=27/09/2024 and http://timetablehistory.com/times.aspx?uid=P77921&date=20240927 show that the OP's booked train was cancelled on the 6th September.
As you eluded to, the loco hauled services are sometimes substituted by units - it happened to me last Sunday, when half of Manchester (seemingly) wanted to get on the 2-coach unit that presented.
If in doubt, use a different card for the Heathrow to Hatton Cross journey. Then it will certainly be zones 1-5. I've done this split a few times, but have never got to the cap so can't say for sure.
And if you're off-peak, are prepared to travel on the underground, and are happy to break your journey at Hatton Cross, you will bring the underground fare down to £3.50 instead of £5.60 - the journey to Hatton Cross is free (use Oyster or contactless) and off-peak fares are available from there.
First, just to say that you are indeed fine to use a station that you don't stop at in conjunction with a season or rover ticket.
The system is really in place to sell boundary zone tickets, of which there aren't any to Warminster. When we designed it, we took the view that the vast majority...
Yes, of course you could to those platforms - so imagine you're trying to get an East Midlands Railway train instead of a Thameslink one. I doubt your travelcard will get you through those.
Yeah, no worries. The journey planner TrainSplit uses is provided by us, and we use the last station actually stopped at in the zones when calculating the validity. And yes, I believe that you are correct in your assertion that your BZ ticket is technically valid.
But for other readers of this...
It's within 3 miles of the shortest route, so is allowed via Maidstone East with a walk to Maidstone Barracks.
The route may well be valid and accepted without question, but there are plenty of routes from other London Terminals which may be technically valid but are never going to be accepted...
Hmm. It looks like that fast journey doesn't pass through any routeing points after Maidstone East. And because Maidstone East isn't associated with Aylesford, we can't use it. According to the Routeing Point Calculator, the journey must pass through either Strood or Tonbridge.
As the route...
That's why then. When they are cheaper, our journey planner offers sub-optimal routes as well as the fastest ones. It's then down to the customer to choose.
Did the journey have a change of trains? Sometimes the forum's site will find journeys that other sites don't because it's more intelligent about where to change trains, and it will sometimes select different trains to change onto, if they're cheaper.
But even on direct trains, it can find much...
That's really a function for the TIS rather than the journey planner - something the retailer can do without us. Again, it's more complex than you might think, because there's nothing in the data to tell us if a particular train allows walk-up bikes or not.
Edit: and a TIS shouldn't be selling...
We are working on taking travelcards into account for the whole journey, including splits, but it'll be a while. It's more complex than you might think!
Nice - plus a switch to specify authentication details (maybe using a lodged card which you've already verified?) and it simply drops the PDF / TOD as the result.
