    Blackpool - Manchester Electrification

Week 31 is only one week off, it starts next Saturday 27th. I don't think so, I think it's the final works and energisation on the new OLE from Victoria towards Miles Platting (East) The electrification needs to be ready for the 15th December timetable change. Needs to be completed before...

    Blackpool - Manchester Electrification

I am aware of Mr Locke's comments previously suggesting no electric traction can run without the Great Extension Lead, however I am led to believe that contingency plans are being devised to adjust the feeding of a whole range of surrounding routes such that there would be enough power to drive...

    Blackpool - Manchester Electrification

I believe it's the first structure south of Windsor Bridge itself. So it sounds like the switch on isn't quite going to reach the actual station.

    Blackpool - Manchester Electrification

The energisation next weekend is now only going to be south from Salford Crescent and north from Buckshaw Parkway. Everything else will be turned on four weeks subsequently. That is why you will probably have noticed most activity this weekend around Salford Central and Windsor Bridge South...

    Blackpool - Manchester Electrification

Concrete samples are tested after 7, 14 and 28 days. As soon as a sample has reached a particular strength the foundation can be loaded. So in this instance I would guess that the 7 or 14 day result came back strong enough that there was no need to wait for the 28.

Northern's Problems in the North West

In hindsight, I suspect that despite the chaos at the moment Northern made the right decision on this one. The announcement was one week before Carillion went under. In practice I suspect that the extended blockade would have fallen in the period between Carillion and Amey when there was little...

    Blackpool - Manchester Electrification

I have heard rumours of a large void discovered inside the viaduct, is it possible that this might be leading to the delay? Also on the grapevine it's being suggested that the delay to energising Preston to Blackpool is down to significant cable theft. Unconfirmed but a great shame if so...

Refund for tickets purchased to avoid use of a rail replacement bus

Also the % of travellers who don't check are prepared to travel on the RRB. If you have a special requirement that you can only travel by train it would seem sensible to check.

    Blue helmet

Have you tried VGC, Vital and RCE? All got bases in that area although don't know if they're looking for anyone. Good luck!

    Chase Line electrification

I think it's just as much panic about what would happen if they did accidentally encounter one as actually having found much.

Platform length and capacity at St Pancras

Some years ago one of the designers told me that it was a design requirement that diesel trains weren't to come into the main shed so as to keep the refurbished roof clean. It always seemed faintly ridiculous to me but hey ho

Metropolitan Line Extension (MLX/Croxley Rail Link)

I've heard a rumour today that Network Rail are starting to do some sort of preliminary work on this. Whether that's instead of TfL or purely the NR interface side I couldn't tell you but it does sound like there is at least some movement going on.

    North Downs line electrification

Unfortunately for future electrification projects it's rather beginning to look as though the decision makers in the DfT agree with you about bi-modes..

    Chase Line electrification

Indeed. The mines in question are from the very early 19th century and before. It is perhaps not entirely surprising that NR don't have accurate records of them.

    MML Electrification: progress updates

I have read with great interest the discussion on the previous few pages as to whether it is worth upgrading the line south of Bedford and there have been some excellent points made. However do these have any basis in Network Rail's plans? My understanding is that ECI for the upgrade has already...

    Chase Line electrification

The foundations in areas of historic mineworkings are having to be concrete rather than steel piles and with more steel reinforcement than normal. Additionally before installing the foundations it has been decided to drill into the ground to find how big the mine is. If it is too large it may...

    Electrification Teams -speculation

I believe that ABC Electrification are also involved with the western end of the GWML so 3 teams.

Virgin to Blackpool/Shrewsbury, 2 years on.

I use the Down Blackpool regularly from Rugby. It's fantastically useful for me being the only fast train to the north west to stop at Rugby but it is not heavily loaded at all so I can't imagine many people are using it to Blackpool.
