I’ll be doing this trip, from Newcastle upon Tyne to Corbridge, for a meal at the Valley restaurant at Corbridge station, for the first time tonight, with 3 other people.
As has been mentioned previously on the forum: “Our trained, smartly dressed staff will greet you at the station, at 5.30pm...
Sorry if I missed a previous reference, but the Marrakesh Express:
Looking at the world through the sunset in your eyes
Travelling the train through clear Moroccan skies
Ducks and pigs and chickens call
Animal carpet wall-to-wall
American ladies five-foot tall in blue
Sweeping cobwebs from...
This is why I decided to do the whole trip last month, instead of risking it in the last few days, with little opportunity to rearrange, but best wishes to all on the train.
I was also affected, having arrived at Milan Central station on 6 May, to find the strike in progress. Fortunately, this strike ended at 5pm, and most services got underway after that, but it did mean a 6 hour delay for me. However, that wasn’t as bad as the previous time when these strikes...
I had coffee and biscuits twice on the 09:10 service from Penzance to Plymouth on Thursday. Porridge and a couple of other things were also available, so I didn’t think that was too bad for the £13.95 first class fare (with a railcard, booked a while ago)!
Perhaps include Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh, and the Heart of Wales line, if you can fit them in.
Frim Kyle of Lochalsh, you can, of course, take a bus over to Skye, then another bus down to Armadale on Skye and take the short ferry trip across to Mallaig, to start on the West Highland line.
I booked the trains (with a railcard) and hotels well ahead. All trains first class, apart from Lumo!
Morpeth-Aberdeen £39.60
ABD-PNZ £161.55
Penzance-Plymouth £13.95
Plymouth-London £44.95
Pullman Dining meal with wine £70 (incl £15 steak supplement, which was well worth it!)
London-Morpeth...
Oh, fun throughout, not least chatting with the other ABD-PNZers on that journey, including one who had had a T-shirt made to commemorate the occasion!
The 13.5 hour ABD-PNZ journey wasn’t too long, compared with other trips I’ve done in the past, like some journeys between European countries...
Routine on-time journey on Lumo, bringing an end to around 26 hours of train travel in 3 days, all trouble-free! Congratulations to LNER, Cross Country, GWR and Lumo!
Nice on-time GWR journeys on final day of my trip - Penzance-Plymouth, with a pleasant walk down to the sea at Plymouth Hoe, and then GWR Pullman dining meal between Plymouth and Paddington - superbly cooked steak, and nice cheeseboard.
Arrived in Penzance just 9 minutes late, a great day. There were about 15 people doing the whole trip, about half in first class and half in standard.
Cloudy and misty in parts in Scotland, but generally brightened up as we went further south. Great views of the Devon and Cornwall coast in the...
