    High Speed Rail beyond HS2

Not wanting to appear quite as the Daily Mail reading Tory that I am .... does not the prospect of an independent Scotland completely negate the business plan for HS2?

    Train in new match.com advert

That's the problem with shooting outside ... I guess they had to match the light, and didn't much care about the continuity of the trains. There is a famous scene in the movie "The Usual Suspects" where a passenger plane landing at LAX suddenly grows two more engines.

    SailRail confusion

Since the end of intra-EU duty free in 2000, there is very little value in foot passengers now, and I'm sure both Stena and Irish ferries are concentrating on car and freight traffic now, especially Stena who are reducing/eliminating non-summer fast services to and from HH.

    Stations with large platforms?

I havent been home in a long time .. but I seem to remember Platform 1 at Holyhead going on forever all the way past the "old" ferry birth.

Never get drunk on the train.....

Had the pacer departed once she had fallen .. I suspect the pacer would have been damaged more than her.

    Drunk conductor fined £1000

I hate to speculate .. but when you're that hammered .. the logical explanation is that he gave the buzzer to depart, closed local door and stumbled out before it closed.

    WAG Express discussion

Since it looks like another 175 could be out for a while, does that scupper the plans to ditch the 57?

    why electrify?

Aside from the astonishing cost of electrification, for those who care about emissions, how much is emitted producing all the materials for OHLE quite aside from generating the electricity. As for Bi-mode trains, we have them already, they're called diesel. As for the carrying their own...

Trains are making our lives hell(Wrexham Residents)

I live right on the railroad tracks in NJ, between two crossings, all diesel hellfire, lots of bells and long whistles ... it's something you get used to and barely notice after a while.

Should table seats be abolished in quiet coaches?

Oddly I do remember what I was listening to .. it was technically a boy band ... i.e. Kraftwerk.

Should table seats be abolished in quiet coaches?

I was once spoken to by the guard for my walkman (it was the 90s, don't judge me) being too loud, which it was. That said, it was a loco hauled Bangor to BHM, late sunday night, no-one else on the train, and vintage stock with the seperate compartments. Seemed a little odd for him to complain.

"Any tickets I haven't yet checked?"

Was on a 153 leaving Bodorgan in the 90s. No-one ever gets on there, but this day there were amazingly 3 or 4 people. The guard asked for tix from Bodorgan and no-one answered. So he shouted "I know there was a few of you, I'll check the whole train if I have to". Then, of course a sheepish...

'We are now approaching "Sunny" Rhyl' I used to hear a lot in the 90s.

Welsh Language Act on Cambrian crossings

Well it's true. Why should English taxpayers have to give more and more to a region that scares away businesses that could make it somewhere closer to self sustaining.

Welsh Language Act on Cambrian crossings

It is exactly this kind of issue which is why the Welsh economy is in the toilet. I am so glad to be out of that mess. The Welsh "country" is a joke, and is utterly unsustainable without it's pocket money from England because of all of this BS.

    Cosworth train engine

I think the only way Formula 1 could apply to the uk railway is that all passengers on pacers should be equipped with the neck protecting Hans device.

An alternative to HS2 route, follow the M40?

Just a couple of points from someone who doesn't live in the uk anymore, and probably shouldn't have an opinion, but .. HS2 will unquestionably take revenue from existing lines, making investment and upgrades on the ecml and wcml more of a tax burden, and therefore far less likely to happen...

    Middlewich Line re-opening

If it was more than required, it wouldn't even be in question. The reality is that there is no money to do this, and these guys can always find something more important, like preserving the art of basket weaving, to spend the money on.
