Your making it out like some kind of cattle cart where you have to breathe in so as to be able to fit. I really do think most travelers manage to survive for 2 or so hours without the throne of xerxes to sit on and room to play tennis on the fold down table. The window allignement is annoying in...
I find Northern do on many of their more rural services in the off peaks, its a compromise really because most see really heavy peak usage but not that much off peak.
I see, at the end of the day though the VHF timetable gave significantly more capacity on the WCML and yet VT are having to take measures to prevent overcrowding, they aren't facing a problem getting people to use their trains like in other areas
Well Yes okay, it wasn't always LM, but it is now which was what I was meaning. For example only one peak Hour train doing Euston - MK to discourage usage as a commuter train. Similarly the withdrawring of the Trent Valley VT services.
I assume the Blackpool - London services would have stopped...
Yeah but what about where A is London and B is Manchester, at the moment those trains go down the WCML all the way, but between HS2 being built and it being extended to Manchester we can have trains running London to Manchester via HS2. You'd have to build a new depot I should imagine, and since...
I guess the only other option would have been to make the pillars out of something extremely strong like titanium or carbon fibre, but that would enourmously increase the cost of it. The APT was a strong design, the trouble is it had a problem working in practice, like the brakes were supposed...
Yeah, definately, I think we should have a mix of single deck and double deck trains so that wecan have services running beyond Birmingham to the north, otherwise much of the time advantage will be wasted. It would be a good idea for HS2 to enter Birmingham in tunnels from the east so that...
To give better journey times along that route, HS2 trains would opperate on HS2 as far as birmingham and then some would take the classic WCML whilst the WCML south of Rugby would be served by LM trains.
I'm not sure where your comming from about HST's, Virgins main stock before 390's was class 86,87 and 90 locomotives.
You also have to consider that a lot of stops were removed upon the introduction of the new stock, with many passengers being moved onto LM services, so that should roughly...
Tbh I think plenty of Joe public are happy like I am to travel on Pendolinos, theres also quite a few people who just wanna get some work done whilst on the train or have a nap, for whom the no window seats don't present a problem. I agree that cars are a dangerous mode of transport, but the...
The only present lines that could be upgraded to take those kinds of speed realisitically are the ECML between Stevenage and Thirsk and the GWML between Acton and Bristol parkway
Well usage has increased significantly since they brought in the pendos so I don't think you can say that people have been turned away by them. Its not too fun if your not sat by a window, but I'm around 6ft and theres enough room for my to sit inside fine.
Its air travel I think which is...
There only seems to be a few seats that are genuinely **** as regards to seeing out of the window, agreed its not as good visibility as on something like a 170 but its the compromise for the excellent crash protection they offer. Seeing how fast the Pendo's manage to take some fairly sharp...
I like the 222's and the pendo's the seats are comfortable and yes there are crap views from some of the seats on a pendo, but if you don't like it don't sit there. The pendos are also good fun because they tilt, with rugby station being particularly good to go through at speed
Agreed, and that would be for two trains an hour, since one stops at reading anyway and it isn'tm going to be reaching 125mph before the flyover, much better to build the hitchin flyover
It might be an idea to split the midland cities up, with Derby IC trains running down HS2 and the link between Nottingham and Peterborough enhanced an electrified to see fast trains run that way into Kings cross, then make MML more of a communter route with regular trains stopping more
When the money comes into existance;
-155mph upgrade of the ECML with tilting trains
-140mph running on parts of the GWML
-HS2 to be extended in two prongs, one to Leeds via Sheffield and Derby, 2nd to Glasgow and Edinburgh via Manchester
-140mph Pendolino's running on the GWML coupled with...
They should be made to 6 car trains.
The trains are diesel electric, so you could just run a cable and add a transformer which should be sufficient. These trains would be more efficient opperating under electric power rather than diesel and significantly so. Theres no point in taking the diesel...
Thats exactly what I've been saying, adding a pantograph coach would increase capacity and cut down on emissions by allowing the Voyagers (and possibly Meridians south of Bedford) to run from overhead lines where they can. Theres no need to replace the IC225 trains yet, and with HS2 we could...
