Touche!
To clear up any semantics, I was thinking bare minimum to allow services to cross.
This is pretty much the exam question I was (poorly) getting at - at very broadly what point does the cost of additional expensive turnouts and signalling outweigh the savings in plain line? Is there a...
Evening all!
Theoretical question, assume we have a 100km double track railway that is running well below it's operational capacity in terms of services. Assuming costs of making any changes are zero and paid for by a 3rd party, at what level of service does conversion to single line with...
Well over 20 posts on the subject of fares variability in a relatively small urban area - symptomatic of the mess things are in. Hopefully TfGM will consider this issue as an absolute priority in any discussions they are having before they start splashing yellow paint everywhere.
There's a fleet replacement programme being worked up by Northern which includes the replacement of 150s. However it is unlikely that GM would be able to get the statutory or funding structures in place prior to decisions being made on this front. More likely given the complexity of unravelling...
Andy Burnham has had quite vocal aspirations towards what Steve Rotherham has got up the road for a while now (at least in terms of the Wirral/Northern lines). The problem, as has been pointed out myriad times is that Greater Manchester's local internal rail network is not in any way...
As someone who uses the tram semi-regularly, I wouldn't consider it that bad. I do wonder if its reputation precedes it thanks to our tabloid local rag who tend to focus on the latest Metrolink horror show when there aren't enough gangsters and celebrity island stories to go round.
Anyway, I...
Something that has puzzled me having ridden on a couple of examples of similar generation Pendolinos in Europe (Alfa Pendular on CP, 310s in Slovenia) is why the traction motors on a 390 are rated at 425kw vs 500kw on Continental European examples? I'm assuming that this is related to loading...

I wouldn't personally consider 5 coaches a day "regular" (although I've no idea what the service was like pre-Covid). Certainly not in comparison to the 30-odd direct rail services each weekday.
Application has been in to convert the unit opposite M&S in Victoria to another branch of the Tap group (Waterloo, Euston, Piccadilly) for a while now. Not seen much movement on site yet though (nor will I in the immediate future given the current situation I suspect).
I believe that the plan...
I'd disagree ;)

The latest timetable change added in further performance allowance at the Manchester end which now means that CLC stoppers are regularly passing Cornbrook 4 or 5 minutes early. Therefore, some drivers of on-time trains are taking it very easy on the approach knowing that the alternative is a...
In a former life I worked on the PTL calcs for one of the bidders for W&B - effectively it is a weighted version of average minutes lateness where service lateness at a location is multiplied by average passenger alightings (usually by service group). The argument is that this more accurately...
Hi SansHache!
Just had a quick look at Opentimetrains and cannot see the existing daily Voyager service (calling Poulton and Kirkham) continuing post May-18? Ditto the VT West Coast boking site. Could you advise as to where you got the above information?
Best regards!
