    High Blood pressure

Just got in from a medical. Doctor wants more info from my GP due to my blood pressure. It was 176/105 then 166/100 in the medical... Got home and measured it... 141/89 :s So yeah, stupid white coat syndrome! That said, I showed the doctor a chart of my home BP readings as they were generally...

Medical question - Trainee Train Driver

I've got a medical soon for train driver. I have psoriatic arthritis although it is well controlled by medication. The right knee is visibly swollen however, I don't really get any discomfort and can run and cycle long distances. I cant let it get in the way of going for my dream job. I will...

Trainee Driver - Starting a YouTube Channel

I follow a handful of drivers etc.. on social media and hadn't thought about the risks involved especially as many take pictures of their sets so clearly identifying who they work for. One guy even did a brilliant instagram story of a "day in the life" showcasing his diagrams/workbooks/kit and...

Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail) Driver info needed please

Hi Choice, Thanks for the message - since I replied to you, I have actually spoken to a qualified driver based in the west. He started in Dublin (albeit, many years ago) and transferred out. He said that newly qualified drivers would be required to do a few years in Dublin (potentially shunting...

Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail) Driver info needed please

Hi Choice - I don't work for IE but going through the recruitment process at the moment so can give a bit of insight. IE ran an external trainee train driver recruitment drive in both 2019 and then again in Oct 2020 (when I applied) - my understanding from a friend who knows people in the...

    Height worries!

Good luck with the assessment centre. I have a second assessment day booked for a week on Friday! The first was before Xmas - it's nerve-wracking of course and the best advice I can give is just to remain calm. It's easy to work yourself up when you're sat there but just remember to take a few...

    Height worries!

Hang upside down for a an hour or two every day and you'll grow an inch or two.... Only kidding, I don't have any knowledge but would have thought you'll be fine. Nothing you can do about it either (in the kindest sense) so I'd say if you can drive a car then all will be well.

    What are railway apprenticeships like?

For trainee train driver (or pretty much any role on the railways), always prioritise safety when answering. You will be presented with a scenario and given 4 options of actions to take. You need to rank your answers in the order of priority from best to worst possible action. So your question...

    Iarnrod Eireann recruiting

That's amazing, well done! Great news to get ahead of Christmas! How did you find out? Did they email you out of the blue or did you chase? I'm not sure how I went in truth! The TRFS was tough - I managed to read all the information but my note-taking wasn't particularly efficient I don't...

    Iarnrod Eireann recruiting

Hey Roque - thanks for the post and glad that you felt it went well. Your feedback seems to be consistent with what I've heard previously about the TRFS. It's certainly the test I'm most nervous about but practice seems to have gone ok. It's interesting as I've spoken to a friend who has a PHD...

Good luck tomorrow Roque! Give it everything and I'm sure you'll sail through 8-)

    TRFS techniques

Yeah psychometrics - that was my concern really was the time element. Clearly psychologists know the best way that your brain can remember information but I would agree that it's better to get through 100% of the info and remember 85% of it than only get through 75% but remember it all!

    TRFS techniques

I have an assessment later in the month which will include the TRFS - the literature provided suggests writing things down as you go and that is honestly how I have "revised" for tests in the past. Having queried techniques in another forum though, the following post was interesting from someone...

    Iarnrod Eireann recruiting

Ah right yes my bad - hadn't got to that part of practice sample yet and didn't equate the "concentration test" with it being the SCAAT. I'm thankful it seems to be letters rather than shapes. I find the shapes much harder to find. The second test, when I was doing it I thought to myself, "this...

    Iarnrod Eireann recruiting

Mine's the 18th - hopefully you might able to let me know how you get on?? :) Wishing you the best of luck - at least there's lots to be looking at to prepare us and we're not having to second guess at what might be put in front of us. Does seem like the recruitment process will be very...

    Abellio Online Assesment

Thanks Coach - I'm glad it came down for you! Tbf, I have lost about a stone in the last 2 months and it's amazing the benefits that has to the BP. Common sense of course but it's great to see the results.

    Epilepsy & Train Driving

I'm only speculating here but if you have a diagnosis then I can only assume that they would be skeptical. Think about it, if you suddenly have a blackout out of the blue and it causes an incident and it was discovered that you were diagnosed with epilepsy then questions will obviously be asked...

    Abellio Online Assesment

Did they advise of any limits regarding BP? I've been known to have a bit of white-coat syndrome and BP can go through the roof when doctors are testing it! It's generally fine when I do it at home so definitely an issue with being in front of a doc.

    Failed Tea Occ today

I'm sure next time you'll be even better prepared so try not to beat yourself up too much. Put it this way, you'll be so much more determined next time than if you failed on a section that you had little confidence on.

    Iarnrod Eireann recruiting

Amazing, congratulations! Yeah I thought there might be a wait whilst they sort invites for assessment centres but the email was fairly vague when explaining what happens next - just as and when jobs come up. But I thought there were jobs available! So guess we could be waiting 2 weeks or even...
