    Northern (and I think TPE) don't require a photo for a registered card. I wasn't aware you could have an unregistered card for a season though.

    The original T&W Metro barriers used to mark the tickets. Initially it was a small rectangular symbol made up of diagonal lines, then it was updated to a line of text - date and time certainly, possibly location too. That was decades ago. Progress, eh?

    I'm still not seeing it. For pay as you go or carnet type tickets, yes you would need to tap in/out. But for 'normal' walk-up ticket types, SOR/SVR/SDS/etc then you can just store the ticket reference on the smart card rather than in a PDF. What's the difference? Chalk and chalk.

    I'm not seeing the difference here? Surely it's the same for an e-ticket return stored on a smartcard as it is for one presented as a barcode on paper? Either the infrastructure is there (gates, validators, conductor's smartphone) to validate the ticket and mark as used - or it isn't, in which...

    The engine would restart almost immediately the unit came to a stand. Around the time the doors were being released. From ones I observed from the platform, I didn't notice another engine stop.

    In my experience the third engine was always restarted for station departure on WCML, including the Barrow services.
