Cross Country Cancellations - Emergency Timetable

If staffing is now a major issue @ XC, I hope we don't see any single 4-car Voyager trains through BHM anymore as single 4-car Voyagers are a poor use of scarce driver resources.

Nationalisation what it means for staff?

Did TfL Rail start with no route and traction trained drivers then?

How is the Road Freight sector subsidized in the UK?

Moderator note: Split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/royal-mail-to-cease-using-trains.270595/ [I'm from western Canada.] How exactly is the Road Freight sector subsidized in the UK other than by using taxpayer funded roads?

Should Semaphore signals become listed structures?

Personally, I think redundant semaphore signals should be removed and donated to a museum or other entity for preservation and not preserved in situ.

    Northern Short Forming Again

Unfortunately 2-car class 195s were ordered with the long term intent to be cascaded from flagship routes to secondary rural routes like the Cumbrian Coast Line after all Sprinters are retired.

[Speculative] What will charter stock look like in decades to come?

I wonder if there is any potential for special event or group travel charters operated by Mark 3 derived EMUs.

    Chiltern tender for 20 - 70 units

I disagree with this statement, given the limited enthusiasm by government to electrify the network. By 2035, there will likely have been very little additional electrification on the national railway network other than the already committed projects on the Transpennine and Midland Mainlines...

What is the quickest diesel passenger services under the wires could end?

I think that splitting some existing services in two (or more segments) could make sense especially if that service reverses enroute.

The best way to electrify the Chiltern Network and the Snow Hill Lines

I would start electrification from Marylebone because Chiltern's 165 are older than any Turbostar at WMR.

    GWR fleet procurement

Does the term "DC BEMU" mentioned above mean Dual Voltage BEMUs?

    TPE Future Network

The reversal eats up to much capacity through the Piccadilly station throat.

Could Llandudno-Chester Be Half-Hourly, with more Stops?

What is NCR-5 as mentioned in the screenshot?

Is it time to replace LU line names with numbers?

I think some multi-branched lines could use numbers to denote service patterns. The Wimbleware service could be "route D4"

    TPE Future Network

In the long term post-TRU in 2032, is TPE really the best operator to be serving Saltburn (via Middlesbrough) or Scarborough if those branches are not yet electrified.

Study launched into Bristol Temple Meads electrification plan

Personally, I think a Regional Express dual-voltage electro-deisel bi-mode make the best sense for Cardiff to Portsmouth if the Bristol and Bath area is electrified.

    Possible XC Voyager replacements?

Are forum members expecting XC to return its Voyageurs to their lessor before the fleet becomes life-expired in the 2030s? If they are retired early, would they be scrapped or exported?

    How could Lumo expand/develop/improve?

    Train driver shortage.
  18. C

    How could Lumo expand/develop/improve?

What could be an improvement is if Lumo operated only two 10-car diagrams on the weekend, reducing the number of drivers it needs to work on the weekend.

Hull Trains " Sees biggest timetable transformation in its history": could we see further improvements?

I'd like to see all OAOs on the ECML (including GC, HT & LD) exclusively operate 10-car trains between Kings Cross and Doncaster in order to maximize the number of passengers per train path.
