Just looking at new timetable from May and good to see mainly 3 tph back on Euston - Manchester.
However one missing train, which has been running through Covid, is the first EUS - MAN via Macclesfield. This provides the prime 8.02 from MAC to MAN which was always the most popular service with...
No hourly direct trains between Macclesfield and Euston showing for weekdays next week - is that likely to change? Trains are running through Macclesfield so not an engineering closure. Only seems to be next week!
I've mentioned this one before I think.
There was something like a Weymouth to Nottingham summer Saturday run that I took once from New Street to do the Lifford curve - having come in to New Street passed St Andrew's it then routed out by University, round the Lifford curve and passed St...
On 8.02 Macclesfield to Manchester - prime commuter train from MAC which could have standers even as an 11 car.
11 cars today and lucky if it's 25% occupied - about 10 folk down here in coach U!
A couple of quarries south of Ribblehead are only accessible from the Northbound line so after loading the trains run to Ribblehead to reverse and head back Leeds way.
Not sure if both quarries are still loading trains - possibly just the one near Horton but not Ribblehead.
7.15 Man Picc - Euston about 75% full from Stoke. I'd say not unusual load pre covid but reduced service at present.
Must be too early for City fans heading to lunchtime kick off at Chelsea despite higher fares later!
With the way things worked at Carstairs it meant the portions had to be switched round again at the southern end. In this case perhaps there wasn't time to do this at Duddeston before heading north again.
From my Carlisle days I don't recall the Glasgow portion being reversed - there was often...
The one in the clip was probably the Kensington Olympia to Perth daytime train which I think ran daily in the summer around then. It would usually drop a portion at Carlisle heading north which would give a few more cars on the last 3 or so flats after a gap in cars on quieter days but this one...
They did have recessed doors - they may have folded to give a wider opening.

Looking at the picture on a bigger screen rather than my phone I think you may be right about the Pullman! I don't recall them being blue/grey and marked first class but that's not to say they weren't.
They also continued to work on the GSW through Euston train between Glasgow C and Carlisle for a spell after electrification of the main line.
Not sure if they worked the Euston sleepers along that route too.
Some ex LMS 6 wheeled parcels vans were still in use in the late 70s I think. Painted in the same blue as GUVs. Were they Stove Rs? I remember seeing them in West Coast parcels trains at Carlisle.
And there were some that did something like Liverpool - Glasgow and Manchester - Glasgow and Edinburgh so three portions Preston to Carstairs.
There were probably 2 sets doing morning and evening trips starting at each end so they would just swap over on a Sunday.
BGs in the middle of a train. This used to happen on the southbound Glasgow/Edinburgh to Birmingham trains when the portions were reversed but probably elsewhere too. Interesting walking through the BG to the buffet on a speeding train on the twisty northern reaches of the WCML - nothing to hold...
