Why does it need to increase? Many people on this thread seem to want triple taxation on motorists. Motorists contribute more in taxes to the Exchequer. The Dft budget for all capital spending on all transport for 2024 is 20billion wheras fuel duty raises 28billion. The vast majority of spending...
Why should motorists subsidise bus passengers?
Bus passengers should pay the real cost of providing the service in urban areas although for rural routes there is a case for a subsidy from existing funding sources but without further taxes imposed.
These are the inter-available routes where Underground and National Rail tickets are valid on each other services.

Living locally, people in Winchmore Hill were disgusted with the Conservatives as they wanted to sell their consistuency office and turn it into a McDonalds drivethrugh.
It's absolutely true ... that the prospect of a McD turned a...
Short answer is get rid of them.
I do like when driving on the A21 they have flashing yellows near schools during opening hours. Speeds do drop to 20 when the signs are on and revert back to 30/40 when switched off.
20 is simply to slow as a blanket speed especially when cyclists overtake you...
They also can be found within parts of Epping Forest around High Beach (the woodland/open spaces ... not to be confused with the administrative district of Epping Forest).
You have to remember that schemes such as this would have been on the drawing board for quite a while. Many do not see the light of day. Transport planning takes a very long time here in the UK.
Whilst I agree that the money being spent could be put to better use elsewhere the real reason for the extra platform is political.
The present government can clearly show that they are spending 'reallocated' HS2 money on transport projects in the North.
The government needs to been seen as...
What is the protocol for looking after passengers during severe service disruption? I'm particularly interested to learn from staff (Guards, TM's, Catering or DOO drivers) what do they do and what is expected of them to look after passenger's on-board both in First Class and Standard.
Are staff...
Well if you are at Ridgmont or within walking distance (Wed-Sat btwn 1000 and 1600) I can recommend the tea room at the station as well as the little musuem.
This proposal is nothing new - EastCoast operators have have been trying for decades to offload anything north of Edinburgh.
Elaine Holt when MD of East Coast trains wanted nothing north of Edinburgh.
The case was that there would be more London to Edinburgh trains (the core market) however the...
Luton station ... never to be heard again. Always live manual announcements made by the platform supervisor.
Your attention Platform 3 (4) - next train to arrive will call at King's Cross Midland City, Farringdon, Barbican and Moorgate only. then repeated several times - King's Cross...
Don't expect too much.
Its one of their Deli menu trains. Very basic and limited choice.
Food on LNER is getting poorer such as very limited rations and more inferior service. There are some very good crews and some just average. Gone are the days pre covid where this would be a full breakfast...
I strongly suspect that Hitachi whilst taking some financial hit will still be quids in.
What is most likely in my opinion is that behind closed doors Hitachi will negoitate a case for more cash to be pumped in and it will be the UK taxpayer that will fund it.
Tickets from Manchester to London in BR days were also valid with no excess to:
London St. Pancras via Sheffield. (also when direct route was available via Matlock) and also valid via Hope Valley which had through trains.
London Paddington/Marylebone via Birmingham and Banbury (which I believe...
Ealing Broadway was shown as the destination for stopping services to Paddington at Reading prior to the introduction of the full Elizabeth Line services.
Yes, spot on - a dear colleague from Newcastle who now sadly has passed always told me many times you could instantly recognise Southerners as they always wore coats whereas the 'locals' are lightly clothed including the ladies on a freezing cold night out! Its not freezing .. it's just 'fresh'...
Oh I miss those days when travelling was more fun. You don't see mail trolleys and sacks on the platform these days as well as the mixed traffic trains. Dover Western Docks gone.
Thank you for sharing these excellent photos.
