Penalty Fare for alighting at Stratford on a ticket meant for Shenfield

Just an observation, I use that service regularly and it’s very well advertised at stations and on-board that it runs non-stop from Ingatestone to Stratford. Did you realise after leaving Chelmsford, as you could have still had the opportunity to alight and change trains to reach Shenfield...

    May 2026 timetable

On the GE side I believe nearly so, there are still a few services pre-covid which I remember that have never made a return. Agreed with pathing at Romford, but it’s just a shame as having alternate services before worked quite well (xx:51 towards Colchester/xx:28 towards Southend). Now they...

    May 2026 timetable

It’s still slightly disappointing that for most of the day, GA’s provision at Romford continues to be the Southend Victoria services (with the exception of some early morning Colchester/Clacton starters). There’s always been quite a busy flow to/from Romford to Chelmsford/Colchester and...

    Hanson & Hall

Does anyone happen to know if the 4TC set is still in Ripple Lane, which suffered flats when hauled by 50008 earlier this year? Haven’t seen anything to my knowledge about when (or how), this will be recovered? Thanks in advance!

    Beaulieu Park Station Construction

When I used to live in Chelmsford, the 47 went past the top of our road. The few times I did happen to use to, it was always late or didn’t turn up so I’d end up walking to the station. Certainly not a good candidate to attract people to the station!

    Beaulieu Park Station Construction

I caught the 10:12 from Colchester to Stratford on Saturday (a 5-car formation), it was pleasing to see quite a few customers boarding at Beaulieu Park. Perhaps the leisure market is doing better than the commuters, who likely won’t switch until Season tickets come up for renewal next year.

    Beaulieu Park Station Construction

I thought the same, particularly as it wouldn’t be a long diversion for the 71/371, but First Essex aren’t exactly proactive so I’m not surprised! I think it’ll pickup in the new year at Beaulieu Park, once season ticket renewals come up and people realise the benefit of getting a seat.

    Beaulieu Park Station Construction

A couple of thoughts, I pass through Beaulieu Park most days and have used the station due to family nearby: - There is indeed no real walking route from the station to Boreham. I walked to the Lion Inn (at the edge of Boreham Village), which took a good 25 minutes as you have to go over the...

Reading to Shenfield direct Elizabeth Line trains.

As others have said, there hasn’t been a passenger service from Reading to Shenfield (or vice-versa) since the Elizabeth line fully opened. There were discussions about the possibility of a run to mark the end of MTR’s Concession in May 2025, but this didn’t go ahead in the end. There was a VSTP...

It is, I can confirm from the 06:50 ex Romford this morning!

    GA 1tph at Romford?

This is connected to the Soil Moisture Deficit (SMD) issues, affecting the sections between Harold Wood and Brentwood, as well as on the Southend Victoria branch: https://www.greateranglia.co.uk/travel-information/service-alterations/speed-restrictions As a result, GA have removed the Romford...

Near miss with an access ramp at Norwood Junction station (RAIB)

There have also been several other incidents on the ARL network involving Class 710 “Trap & Drags”, but I’m sure the investigation will fully outline the timeline of events and any recommendations

Greater Anglia - failure to mention bicycle restrictions on website (Dunwich Dynamo)

I presume you caught a Norwich - Liverpool Street service from Ipswich? These are often quite busy with bikes anyway, so another option (if you were refused) could have been the stopping service (which starts from Ipswich - usually platform 3/4), where there would have been plenty of bike spaces...

    Beaulieu Park Station Construction

I was on a service from Liverpool Street to Ipswich earlier today, we nearly came to a stop at Beaulieu Park on the Down on clear signals. Tallies with other reports that drivers are preparing stopping points for services later this year. Contractors for CIS also on site, so progress still...

    Beaulieu Park Station Construction

There’s also been at least two failed units, which have been de-trained utilising the “loop” line that I’m aware of. Certainly on my travels between Essex and Romford, services do sometimes slow down through Beaulieu Park, as allowances are in the WTT already.

Not sure unfortunately, just noticed it in a log item created earlier in the day

Anti-social behaviour between Bristol and Taunton

Reported that the troublesome “Bridgwater youths” have been at Weston-Super-Mare causing issues all evening, as a railway worker myself you have to feel for the staff on this section of route who seemingly put up with this on a daily basis - hopefully something can be done soon.

Substation fire / Heathrow rail closed (21/03/25) - Rail Discussion Only

That’s correct, this also affected platforms 1/2 (Down & Up Mains) and platform 3 (Down Relief). A diesel generator was brought to site later in the day, which once setup allowed normal working to resume without doors being inhibited.
