    Evening Day Return GWR

I came to the same conclusion. It seems an odd way of offering this ticket. Effectively it's only of any use to me for a trip to Exmouth or Torquay/Paignton. Or I could buy an additional POL - EXC return ticket, which would negate any saving on the BNP fare - or go into town and back by bus...

    Evening Day Return GWR

To add to my post above, I found this on the national Rail website. "Only valid in the evenings. Travel must be on trains arriving 1800 or later, at customer's destination or first changeover station. All outward and return travel must be completed on the same evening." Time restriction L3 applies.

    Evening Day Return GWR

Yesterday I decided on an evening trip from local station, Polsloe Bridge, to Barnstaple, due to arrive there 18.33. I used the 16.46 from POL and bought my ticket at the EXC ticket office as there was a 20 minute wait for the 17.15 to BNP. I asked for an "evening return" from POL and was issued...

Free Bus Travel for young people: Soon to be in England.

But it doesn't work like that. Operators expect to be reimbursed for "revenue foregone", as they are for ENCTS passes.

Free Bus Travel for young people: Soon to be in England.

The tax or Council Tax payer as operators expect to be reimbursed. Are the reimbursement arrangements the same as for ENCTS passes, i.e. "no better, no worse off"?

    Britain's Most Scenic Bus routes

Yes, it was the 22 from Dawlish Warren to South Devon College via Torquay and Paignton. 22 now starts from St. Marychurch and follows the same route to S Devon College, so that from St. Marychurch to Torquay you now have both the 11 and the 22.

Saturdays and Sundays should be inside the working week for drivers at all TOCs (not just some as at present)

I notice that this thread is specifically about drivers, but the same situation applies to guards or conductors doesn't it, but not always at the same train companies.

    GWR delay repay queries

OK thanks everyone. Will report back. 1786881355 I've had a prompt settlement of my claim. Initially, SWR advised that I would be compensated for a delay of 30-59 minutes, based on my 53 minute late arrival at Exeter Central. On further examination of my claim, SWR confirmed that the delay I...

    GWR delay repay queries

I caught the 2019 Exmouth train at Central, which left on time but it was delayed 12 minutes at Exmouth Junction because of a trespass incident which meant the train coming from Exmouth was being held at POL.

    GWR delay repay queries

My ticket was from POL to BSK, two advance singles. The outward journey was on time. The 53 min delay was on 1L45 15.20 Waterloo - EXD, which arrived at EXC 54 late. There were delays toward London which were attributed to signalling problems although we continued to lose time to Salisbury...

    GWR delay repay queries

I hope this is the right thread to say that I'm planning to make my first ever delay repay claim after yesterday's 53 minute arrival at Exeter from Basingstoke. My main question is - my advance ticket (from Polsloe Bridge) was booked on the GWR website and collected from the TVM at Exeter...

recommendations for a station to hang out for a couple of hours and see as many 555s as possible?

Photographers really shouldn't be using flash on the railway (and with modern digi cameras it's not needed anyway).

Which heritage lines do and don't have steam bans currently?

I had a text saying two class 37s out today, so are these topped-and-tailed with steam?

recommendations for a station to hang out for a couple of hours and see as many 555s as possible?

I've not visited the North East for a while but understood that photography on the Metro wasn't exactly welcomed. What's the current situation please?

Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

Sorry to read of your experience. The Ulsterbus Coaches are quite big and I can't imagine being in a narrow country lane on one. I had a few days in Belfast in June and made a similar journey from Dublin Airport to Belfast on X2, as the direct flight from Exeter only goes once a week and I...

    Britain's Most Scenic Bus routes

Yes I've done this one. It goes past the Babbacombe Cliff Railway so that can be included in the itinerary. Recently I included service 18 Brixham - Kingswear in a circular trip. The Enviro100EV, 8.5m long, is used on this route and I could see why as the exit from Brixham is via a long hill - a...

Which heritage lines do and don't have steam bans currently?

I read somewhere that pannier tanks are particularly prone to throwing sparks - it may be that they being worked too hard, and certainly harder than in GWR/BR days, with a few exceptions (e.g. the Brecon & Merthyr line).

Stagecoach South West - Fleet News & Discussion

Wasn't the split more to do with the "50 km rule" (likewise the 7 and 92, now 7 throughout)? Although the current 7 (Exeter - Dartmouth) still has the footnote "This bus continues as a through service with through tickets available and passengers can remain on the bus".

Trivia: Examples of local authority areas that border each other but have no bus routes crossing the border.

Let's hope Rochdale - Todmorden (once my local route) doesn't go the same way, given WYCA's approach to cross-boundary services.
