    Worst/best preservation liveries?

It's the locomotive that's preserved. It'll need painting periodically anyway, so why not have a bit of fun with it? It might not be "authentic" but they are working machines as well as museum pieces. For locos on static display which are unlikely to run again, I'd stick to the 'canon'... but...

    Older cars you have seen

Reminds me of mathematics questions in school which featured the "Vauxhall Vector" and "Ford Angle"!

    Older cars you have seen

Seen lots of cool older cars in the last week or so, but the highlight was definitely the Lancia Delta Integrale (on a D plate IIRC) which I passed near Wakefield last night.

    2026 Models

Accurascale's next big project... Unfortunately the 33s were just a tease! Makes sense in some ways to do a 58 though, with the acquisition of Heljan. Heard mixed reviews of the Heljan one over the years, but it's probably due an upgrade by now.

    Older cars you have seen

On Thursday I saw a blue 1987/88 (E) Ford Orion Ghia in Batley. Today's "best sighting" was a 1985/86 (C) VW Caddy pickup, seen passing the Mining Museum near Wakefield. Looked to have had a fair bit spent on the restoration/modification, the sky-blue high-gloss finish was certainly...

£2.5bn Leeds Tram plan delayed after government review

That's all well and good, but a "true" Metro for Leeds simply isn't feasible. You'd need to find existing suburban/regional rail routes to convert, and Leeds simply doesn't have any suitable ones apart from Ilkley, maybe Harrogate at a stretch but that operates beyond the WY Mayoralty and would...

Fantasy - Deconflicting services at Herne Hill

I'm not suggesting that trams shouldn't serve the station, just that they shouldn't occupy space that could otherwise be used for trains. Something akin to East Croydon would be ideal, though a quick look on Google Maps doesn't make it look easy to "crayon" a workable route. Wimbledon is also a...

Fantasy - Deconflicting services at Herne Hill

Sending the tram through the main part of Wimbledon station is kind of a silly move long-term. I can understand why it was initially built that way (it was taking over a heavy rail route) but you lose one of the key advantages of trams by keeping it that way. If you could divert it onto the...

One vehicle to rule them all?

The 777s may be a Stadler product, but they aren't FLIRTs... so using them as a stick to beat UK FLIRTs with is a bit harsh. There was always going to be compromises when it came to building a FLIRT suitable for the GB network, and I think you're being a bit picky in your complaints. Internal...

    Loconundrum

It's the newer routes that throw a spanner in the works for me- I might get routed via Crossrail, but I have to keep reminding myself that it exists... I haven't even got used to Thameslink or HS2, so a routing to a station in East Anglia will throw me off if it wants me to change at Kings...

    Loconundrum

I think I've had Kings Cross to Euston as a 10 minute walk. The way it handles cross London transfers messes my thinking up, as Tube journeys aren't indicated as such until after the puzzle is solved (or you've used up all your guesses) and for some transfers the tube isn't used at all. The...

    Loconundrum

I haven't been able to remember every puzzle since I started playing, and can't remember if Shrewsbury has been used twice in that time... But if it has, it means there's no point in finding out what stations had come up before, as there's nothing to say they won't come up again. In the last few...

*Reliant Robin. <( (sorry, but it really grinds my gears, that. Nobody ever seems to switch the order of ANY other car, but for some reason loads of people do it with Reliant Robins. Just Robins too- I've never heard anyone say "Scimitar Reliant"). Though you do hear people say "E-Type Jag"...

    Future of the 350/2s

But if the replacements aren't suitable, they aren't suitable. It's a bit baffling that Glossop is always the "go-to" place to put them considering the constraints of that line. Stokes, Crewes etc. are more suited to 350s but AIUI all the West side electrics interwork to some extent. We can have...

    Future of the 350/2s

Nobody would be suggesting this if the 350/2s weren't homeless though. Indeed if someone did they'd probably get shouted down for adding another "microfleet". Changing the timetable in order to work more efficiently is one thing, changing it to increase overall capacity by using the "circular"...

    Loconundrum

Lichfield City was a tricky one. I started at Leeds so got the first letter, and in trying to work out where there'd be two 5 minute journeys to get there I went for Liverpool Central (I'd momentarily swapped Moorfields & Central in my head)... Of course the game assumes a walk anyway if going...

Should have Network Southeast when they electrified the Hastings line, also electrified other lines?

I vaguely recall some discussion somewhere about how DC to Uckfield would be problematic as it couldn't all be fed from Oxted as 750v DC needs more frequent feeders and there was no suitable existing power lines to feed from. Although IANAEE (the final two letters standing for Electrical Engineer!).

Taxis well off their usual patch

Saw a taxi in Dewsbury yesterday which was plated for Ashfield in Notts.

Should have Network Southeast when they electrified the Hastings line, also electrified other lines?

Wasn't there an issue with grid supply that prevented DC to Uckfield? Or at least pushed the costs beyond what BR were willing to fund?
