The theatrical version that aired in the UK may have had different scenes than the USA TV Version. In the cut TV version the part where the train goes around the curve and almost derails is cut out to make room for more commercials, and consequently destroyed most of the suspense.

I believe I read on the web site that it took six years to build the layout. As for DCC, the entire railroad is computer controlled. No one is there to operate the trains. They have a tech on duty to keep things running smoothly, but otherwise everything is automated.
