Between Ipswich & Liverpool Street on the then alternate through services from Lowestoft/Peterborough. Nice idea bu a total waste of scarce DMU recourses at the time. DOO was only permitted on single units. Trains like the combined 07:05 ex-Yarmouth/06:44 ex-Lowestoft ‘The East Anglian’ had to...
Everything they do is known about and governed by the DfT. No doubt an explanation will go in along with a side plan to possibly mitigate against a future issue and that will be that. Not much else can be done really with just 14 or so months left on the contract.
I foolishly thought TASS was going to be provided through Devon & Cornwall when Virgin introduced the Voyagers to the South West. With the curvature I thought it perfect but obviously was never going to be.
Yes it’s looking rather iffy. Will probably give it a wide berth although I must say i have invested a fair bit in organisations I’m not overly comfortable with over the years if it makes me some money.
They seem so old fashioned nowadays compared to in-cab TMS operated cameras. Those dreadful mirrors too. I used to prefer to look back but then we only operated DOO with a single 3-car 170. I used to pity drivers of 8/12-car units especially on sunny days.
Okay. We operated the other way around with the DKS (CDL key) then press the deselect button (illuminated) and then door release. Rear most carriage locked out. Even the 2-cars (270-273) had this facility too if I remember correctly. It’s been over six years since we operated anything other than...
Yes that was correct and when the through services from Peterborough & Lowestoft where withdrawn in 2011/12 all Norwich drivers lost their DOO competency. Ipswich & Liverpool St (AR depots) retained theirs as they had class 317/321/322s on their route cards and selected diagrams.
As someone who doesn’t have to purchase rail tickets could somebody please explain why people buy from Trainline who charge a booking fee rather than directly from train operators who don’t? I’ve never really understood.
No, the guards operated the red deselect button in the rear cab. This stopped the doors opening on the rear coach. There was and still is no DOO on Anglia local routes.
The problem with Whittlesea is that it involves passing over Ely North Jcn & the additional pressure on level crossings across the Fens to Peterborough. Thsee where the reasons Network Rail refused the hourly frequency from Ipswich.
