London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

Travelled on the 19:29 YRK to KGX on a recent weekday. Tea & Coffee round immediately on departure, swiftly followed by the drinks trolley. Food after Doncaster, 4 sandwiches, crisps, 2 slices of cake. Lasagne & veg option both available if desired (a lot of takers for the Lasagne). A chap...

    Special Offers Discussion

It seems very fussy. You have to be logged into your account, then click on the link in the e-mail, then search from the page you are taken to (not the EC homepage otherwise you won't see the promotional fares). Just successfully booked a return trip in Feb, but it took several attempts to...

What are the steps going up in the subway of London Waterloo station used for?

I agree it must be segregation of paid & unpaid areas. The subway did used to be open permanently until around about 21:00 IIRC, prior to the introduction of the gateline. It made changing to the Bakerloo/Northern a lot quicker from the platforms.

EC mainline delays - failed 225

Yup, that's exactly what happened. As you say, that sort of sensible thinking must be stopped! Passengers on the failed train looking decidedly glum, hope it won't be too long before they're rescued.

EC mainline delays - failed 225

Currently on the up Chieftain - approx 25 mins late due to a failed unit just outside Wooden Gate Junction near Alnmouth. I do not know exactly which unit has failed other than it was a London to Edinburgh service, others may be able to confirm. The Train Manager has praised the "good...

Incident at crewe tonight - atw

I'm currently pursuing a complaint with a TOC about a train that left a station 2m30s early, self-dispatched by the guard/conductor. Due to a severely delayed incoming connection by another TOC, I missed it when I should have just caught it, and my journey was further disrupted. The initial...

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

Well, I didn't, but believe what you want to believe. :o

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

I agree & I hope that SilentOne's posts are not a representation of the cultural attitude amongst EC staff to the new offering. They need to appreciate that they are their to serve paying customers, who have paid a premium for the service they are receiving. If the customer wants the options...

Am I wrong to feel aggrieved...?

Interestingly this is similar to the industry I work in (TV) where we have public audiences in for show recordings. There is a ballot for tickets, for big shows you can get good guests / music acts. I have seen time & time again staff turning up & trying to sneak in with their ID, it really...

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

Had an interesting text today from a Scottish friend who's come down to London for a few days - he's not a rail buff in any way & wasn't really aware of the changes: "Oh my god, First Class has changed and is simply pathetic now! I'm already writing my letter of complaint!" When pressed for...

Passengers forcing their way off stranded trains

To be honest you can't really blame the passengers in this incident (or the last one) for getting off the train, I wouldn't have done but I can understand why they did. From the photo posted earlier the train was barely 60 yards outside the station. There's no Alpha male about it, false...

    Major delays for SWT

Complicated rules & procedures notwithstanding, surely one of the main issues here is around communication. Taking on board all those points about what is involved in a detraining, surely it would have been considered in the normal course of these situations given the duration of the incident. I...

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

I was a big fan of the EC at-seat burger and was more than happy to pay for it, haven't travelled EC since the changes but from what I hear my next trip to Stirling or Inverness isn't going to be half as good as it used to be. Surely EC could address a lot of the criticism by re-introducing one...

Marshlink - Longer trains, extra services

Sometimes I get late evening Bexhill - London Victoria services which originate at Ore, and have been surprised that a 171 has turned up on more than one occasion (and can end up running late by Lewes). Maybe that's something to do with movements to Selhurst. Marshlink will be well served by...

    Staying overnight on Station

Would it actually be allowed to stay on a station overnight? I'm sure there's something in the byelaws about not being on railway business. Remote CCTV operators may spoil the fun! Hypothetically speaking - Clapham Junction would be good. The Sutton-Epsom Downs branch would be rather dull!

    Old SWT routes?

Fantastic stuff, cheers for all the info! :D Sorry for the late reply btw, didn't realise I'd been activated! Interesting that it originated at West Croydon and not London, but I guess it makes sense if Clapham Junction is totally segregated between the two franchises (which is surprising...

    Old SWT routes?

Hi there, My first post here so please be kind! I've been a lurker for a while but finally decided to join in, hope to be having some good railway chats :D I have a question which someone may be able to answer regarding late 1990's South West Trains routes. I've always had an interest...
