I usually just have half my foot on the pedal, like just using my toes, I always think I'll damage my foot long term lol...hope not

    * Stages for becoming a trainee train driver *

Good choice, cab sharing at the moment is voluntary so a driver instructor may not feel comfortable sharing a cab with a trainee due to covid. Wmt especially Birmingham depot have so many trainee drivers who have completed the rules and traction and are sat at home waiting for a instructor for...

    * Stages for becoming a trainee train driver *

With wmt at the moment it will probably take 2 or 3 years for any new starters to qualify. Instructors still have no interest in sharing a cab with trainee.

‘Driver’ isn’t the only job on the railway

Sorry meant by doing a little overtime.

‘Driver’ isn’t the only job on the railway

If the train drivers pay as rubbish like it was before 1997 nobody would be applying. It's all about the money. Train drivers can earn 75-80k without even trying. Then the big hitters are hitting 6 digits.

    WMT Driver Pool - 2021/22

Good idea to try and go for the other toc, I'd avoid wmt as they have so many trainee drivers sat at home for over a year now and could be at home for another 12 months due to no instructors that want to take on a trainee.

Is it possible to change TOC after qualifying as a driver?

But it happens all the time, plenty of drivers I've seen join, quality and leave and move back. They're not going to say in the interview there plan is to leave as soon as possible lol

Failed Tea-Occ & MMI. Is it the end of a driving career?

I passed mmi 2nd time around and was told before hand that if I failed the mmi 2nd time I cant apply again unless the tests change in future. I think the mmi shouldn't count as a life but it is what it is. I would join the railway as a guard and who knows 10 years time they may change the...

    WMT recruiting

Before covid, it was just come in and front end, some trainees loved it as they did 1 trip and went home, others hated it as they just wanted to get driving and pass out. Full pay yes.

    WMT recruiting

I dont know why they dont make the January course little later, you'll go through the first 4 months of hard work then looking forward to the driving part you'll will be waiting 12-18 months for a instructor. The amount of trainees for new st still at home since march is mad, and instructors...

    New lockdown effect on trainees?

Exactly, it's the new norm how they handle training now, I was saying before that this virus might go on for years. I have read a vaccine has been found so we will see, but at my toc its business as usual few more drivers that have been on long term sick have returned this week and are out with...

    WMT Driver Pool - 2021/22

Problem they have is they are so far behind with the current trainees that it's all a mess, alot of the trainees are still at home as it's taking WMT trains forever to bring them back, I'm waiting for my trainee and to resume the handling. People that are very early into the recruitment stage...

    WMT Driver Pool - 2021/22

I wonder if they will end up putting it on hold until passengers start returning, trains are still very quiet and I wont be surprised if they cut services on certain routes.

    Exams certificates

They never ask to see them. I know on the drivers course they now do functional skills maths, english and IT but if you can produce a certificate that shows you have passed then you dont have to do functional skills.

New starter - Covid-19 impact on employment

Like you guys my trainee has had enough of being at home and wants to get back and get his hours in. Every other industry has resumed work, seems like the unions just like kicking off for the sake of it, what they dont know is their members want to get back to work.
