Westminster City Council demand immediate end to Class 68 operation into Marylebone due to pollution

Leeds NW electrification of course did originally have hand-me-downs before the smart 331s came into service.

Trivia: Reopenings that have been "Proposed" the longest.

Portishead line was mooted for restoration as part of the proposed Avon Metro scheme in the mid 80s, Wikipedia tells me Advanced Transport for Avon was put forward in 1987 but there were definitely noises about it a lot earlier than that. I might have some newspaper cuttings on it somewhere...

    New Station calendar

It’s what the adjacent facility is known as, so will be clear where it is. I suspect they might get some passengers from housing on the other side of the Portway road.

    New Station calendar

Is it foreseeable that they might redouble some of the line to allow for more services? There’s quite often compounded delays caused by units waiting at Clifton Down for the single line. 2tph will be harder to manage.

Stations which have declined/increased in importance

I’m surprised there’s never been a proposal for a new town around Pilning/Severnside/Severn Beach, lots of marginal land, not much in the way of spectacular countryside for people to object about, sea views for some and potentially very good road/rail links to a popular city. Instead it’s a...

    New Station calendar

I think this is the first appearance of the destination on RTT: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:U36865/2021-11-07/detailed A milestone of sorts. Surely they will need to increase service frequency (and capacity) from 3t/2hr if it’s to be viable as a Park and Ride station? Plus...

    Network Rail's vegetation problem

Not certain this is the right thread for this (mods feel free to move or create a new one), but can anyone explain how the scheduling of RHTTs works? Are these planned in advance or to some extent adapted to conditions and weather? Is there a controlling mind somewhere making these decisions...

    Network Rail's vegetation problem

Alternativery, you get residents demanding NR fell trees, then take matters into their own hands: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-43391238

Collision and derailment near Salisbury (Fisherton Tunnel) 31/10/21

I’m sure the media will scream and point fingers about this incident despite the contradiction with their long-term stance of leaves on the line being a pathetic and unjustifiable excuse for delays. Maybe even shoehorn an attack on the ‘green agenda’ into articles too. Don‘t expect consistency.

    Weather related disruption 31/10

At least down here in the West Country we‘ve had a wet and windy week, so ground will be saturated leading to flooding or weakening of tree roots. There was disruption on Saturday (30/10) too following a very heavy downpour early in the morning, with flooding at Flax Bourton (between Bristol...

Collision and derailment near Salisbury (Fisherton Tunnel) 31/10/21

Nobody knows yet whether that is something that happened. However, we have had very heavy rain in the West Country over the last couple of days, so my initial thought seeing the location was it could be that or some kind of slip outside the tunnel, prompted by the weather. Whatever it is we...

Monsal Trail: Potential plan to turn viaduct into railway opposed

With NPR providing potentially a very fast route from Manchester to Huddersfield, is it not possible that running Manchester - Hudds - Wakefield - Sheffield becomes competitive with Hope Valley? Particularly if there is also a fast route from Leeds-Sheffield that can be tapped into?

Alternatives to HS2 (East) between East Midlands Parkway and Sheffield

By the time HS2 gets there, Radcliffe will have been demolished and replaced with the sort of dismal high density housing and car-centred retail parks that get built on such sites now.

Which lines are most likely to receive battery trains within the next 10 years?

Portishead. No way they will be able to cheaply electrify the Avon Gorge part of the line with multiple tunnels etc, so start the wires from Pill and run on battery from Ashton Jn to there.

Locomotive Services Limited Railtour Programme 2022

Haven’t shown up for the crowds at Bedminster yet, single line working at Flax Bourton due to flooding is causing disruption. Hoping it’s not been routed through Westbury to avoid the chaos!

    Compartment Coaches on Heritage Lines

Unless you go to the Isle of Wight! When I did go there (which was over thirty years ago!) the vintage carriages really did add character.

Locomotive Services Limited Railtour Programme 2022

A date on there for 45118 late in the year - is that currently mainline certified or on the way? I’d quite like to watch that coming down this way.
