I was referring to the line being used by BEMUs to avoid the need for electrification (except for a small section at Anniesland station).

Surely the Maryhill line would be a future easy, quick win, requiring minimal electrification work at Anniesland station. Whilst a modest line in terms of passenger volume it would eliminate a couple of DMUs when BEMUs eventually arrive.

Presumably BEMUs using electric power through the Queen St tunnel and same at Anniesland station where it terminates. It’s posted on another thread that there are clearance issues with canal bridges along the line too.

Surely BEMUs are a faster route to decarbonisation. If passenger volumes increase - and funding becomes available- then over time you can fill the gaps in “discontinuous electrification” and make the busier lines fully electrified. And maybe some BEMUs can be designed to allow them to be fully...

Re Glasgow and Edinburgh airports… would it make sense to build a driverless elevated train between Paisley Gilmour St and Glasgow airport? PGS has about 7 trains per hour to Central and Ayrshire and Inverclyde. For Edinburgh airport, it always strikes me as a convoluted train/tram journey...

Regarding BEMs… any sign of the updated decarbonisation plan which is long overdue? Scotrail will soon be desperate for new EMUs to replace ageing 318s and 320s as well as BEMs to start replacing 156/158s. HST replacement seems to be the priority though.

Tend to agree! I was stunned to read that they didn’t keep performance records of the trains until very recently, demonstrating amateurism and complacency. I wonder if it would be better absorbing SPT into Transport Scotland.
