Remember there was no HS1 or LGV Nord at this time, so travel time would have been slower either side of the tunnel - which itself has a 160km/h limit.
I imagine that the Night Ferry would have not been axed and instead diverted through the tunnel, almost certainly with a somewhat shortened...
I had a similar issue with "hotel power" on an Amsterdam to Munich journey in 2021. In that case, they stopped the train and reset the locomotive, which fixed the issue.
Also, the Germans got some of the locomotives taken to France with the BEF; there's a photo of one operating S-Bahn services in Berlin after the war:

The one thing that the Germans had that could do precision dive bombing was the Stuka and that was rather slow. It got withdrawn rather quickly from operations over Britain due to heavy losses.
Aerial gunnery was a different kettle of fish and there is plenty of footage of locomotives coming...
They were common targets for fighter bombers and fighters. RAF Hornchurch claimed over 200 destroyed by their pilots.
You had a few end up at the bottom of the ocean too when the ships transporting them were sunk.
They've said they're going for loco and carriages. While they're being somewhat coy about who they've made a deal with in their email newsletters, I'm personally thinking they might have gone with the Polish company PESA.
