I have got a couple of weeks annual holidays coming up soon and am considering flying to Europe to do a little bashing and broaden my rail horizons a little.
However i'm not sure where to go, so the questions are-
What would you consider the top 3 'hellfire' 'must do'...
I am going to Lower Saxony next week (to see my kids) and intend travelling around using the lander tickets for that area. Can anybody point me to a comprehensive rail map, either online or to purchase?
Any other tips for a first timer abroad would also be welcome!

With this in mind it is almost a certainty that some will enter preservation in the future, maybe even maintained to main line standards.

Was sitting on a bus today (which I suspect many on this forum would consider odd), when my thoughts drifted onto how other people view transport enthusiasts. I've never understood how a passion (for trains, aircraft, buses) that has a greater following than many major football teams has become...
Never thought I'd rave about GM locos, but 079 on the Ballina branch with a keen driver was an absolute blast, where else can you get heads out thrash with an ageing loco and 3 coaches on a beautiful rural branch line without needing a passport to get there?
