    Delay repay is it destructive?

I think 15 mins in particular would make sense based on over journey length. Trips of 20 minutes and 3 hours being treated the same seems odd

    Delay repay is it destructive?

Apologies if this topic has been approached before, I had a look but can't see anything quite the same. I regularly make trips with Avanti and I almost budget for delay repay refunds now. Staff on the train are very proactive about communicating the right to compensation but I can't help...

    Locomotive Services Fleet (LSL) updates

    Locomotive Services Fleet (LSL) updates

Bigger issue was lack of run around at Glasgow Central. 90 can't talk to the DVT with the 89 in the way so needs somewhere it can run around

Do MUs still need two cabs?

If you do this why not just have remote drivers, like they have with, for example, military drones. This would require unbelievably robust telecoms!

Thanks Paul. Looking forward to it, what a fantastic achievement!

    Locomotive Services Fleet (LSL) updates

I'm travelling on the tour with 89001 tomorrow (Tuesday, 18 August 2026). The paths on Real Time Trains suggest that the 89 will be pushing in one direction as there are no paths to leave Glasgow Central and I'm not sure a run around of locomotives is possible there. Can anybody confirm? I...

Derailment at Wickford - Friday 14th August 2026

There's an embedded video about half way down the news page. You can just about make out something happening from all the dust. It certainly won't win an Oscar for quality

Future for Gwili Railway after Carmarthen-Aberystwyth line reopening.

They can't even get the Newport M4 relief road or the third Menai Crossing sorted, let alone build a railway in a very rural area.

Severe Alert from the UK Government

I know enough Welsh to decipher it but I completely agree with you But Paul's point on it being a misuse of the system is an interesting point

Severe Alert from the UK Government

Received in Welsh first then about 10 minutes later in English. About 4 weeks too late. Was Royal Mail responsible for delivery? They should have a "don't go buying from dodgy vape shops or Turkish barbers" too

Number of incidents vs number of RAIB investigators

This is a great question. I was wondering the very same thing. The RAIB have 43 employees including 4 investigation team leaders and 20 investigators.

Swansea-Fort William travel advice (for event starting from Ben Nevis at 0900)

Have you considered the Caledonian Sleeper from Birmingham International? Or Crewe?

    Car hire question

While expensive, I would recommend the Super Cover, especially over getting stand alone excess insurance. This will eliminate any worth about any damage, even a stone chip can be costly. As in the Hertz above you would be able to use your debit card then

    Rother Valley Railway

If there is more than one of you an Uber or other taxi might be worthwhile, with Robertsbridge to Bodium railway stations taking about 20 minutes and about £25

Pub near Paddington prior to the Night Riviera

For real ale at good prices, plus food until it closes at 10.30pm on a Sunday how about the Spoons on Paddington Basin just a couple of minutes walk away: https://www.jdwetherspoon.com/pubs/the-sir-alexander-fleming-paddington/ It's not in a historic building, but it's clean and fresh inside.

GWR accused of disrupting Wales-England train links by Welsh Government

We really should have a "Welsh Government accused of disrupting Wales-England train services" thread given the often appalling service delivery by TfW

CAF class 197 Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Having seen all the 197s parked up in middle yard, Chester you've got to wonder why they don't build a second depot there. There seems to be plenty of space.
