If it was up to me, I'd be reinstating the M17 as it was a great example of what an express Megabus service should be! Handy for passengers going from Southampton to Manchester Airport in particular!
There's a good bus service to and from Abingdon and Radley as well. Plus Kennington residents yes will have to go down to Radley then go back north but better than getting stuck in traffic, changing buses in Oxford and lugging suitcases to platform 4 or the new 5 when it's opened. With Radley...
That route use to exist, yes but with Class 31's and Mark 1's from Birmingham.
Good idea that and then more capacity could be considered - EMR run 2-car 158's and 3-car 170's South of Peterborough so worth a thought!
Long one folks - been thinking about these suggestions for a bit over 5 months...
Theres a lot of things I'd want overhauled at CrossCountry put it that way. However I'll stick to the topic...
1. Mixture of 5-car and 7-car Class 80x tri-mode trains - a bit more 5-car to allow for 10-car...
And vice versa at Oxford and Didcot Parkway the stopping services to London Paddington saying "Ealing Broadway". I remember asking and it was to encourage passengers to use the faster services. I thought it was and good tactic!
Apparently Newcastle to Brighton will be 221's. However surely that means XC could have the 221's instead and then you might as well let CrossCountry run the Brighton services if that's the case!
I praise CrossCountry for keeping services going north of Newcastle . According to realtime trains the biggest delays on 2 weren't a bad 33-35 minutes considering the storm!
If only CAF built a multi-modal or BEMU version of the Class 196 (3 and 4-car versions)!
The 196 is the highest capacity regional multiple unit built since the 158's and 159's and have the ideal seating layout for their use.
What about CrossCountry running Leicester - Sheffield shuttles. They've used that route during disruption and engineering works so to me it seems an idea to consider.
