    First Greater Glasgow

Certain journeys, but otherwise it’s a Dumbarton route.

Trivia: What bus routes still make use of a ferry?

I think McGill’s 907 service still runs via the Dunoon ferry.

    Most Out-Of-Date Special Event Information?

Yoker depot still has a sign outside advertising opening in 1987. (Photo from David Panton, railscot.co.uk)

    First Greater Glasgow

I used to drive out of Larkfield depot in the mid-2000’s and I thought everyone was the same rate back then. If the No 2 guys were on a different rate back then, that completely passed me by.

I’m surprised to see on the First Group Careers Website that No 1 drivers now seem to be on a higher pay rate that No 2 drivers. Is this a new thing and how on earth did the Union agree to that?

Interview help - Customer Service Assistant for Network Rail

“Competency based” questions usually start with “Tell me about a time when…” so I would have a think about the sort of tasks you will be expected to do in the role and some examples of when you have done these sorts of things previously. For example, tell me about a time when you’ve given...

    McGill's Buses - Renfrewshire & Inverclyde

Ah, missed that in the other thread. Interesting development.

    McGill's Buses - Renfrewshire & Inverclyde

Anyone know what McGill’s are planning here? https://www.s1jobs.com/job/intercity-coach-drivers-23177198

Through the depot in service? (Yorkshire Traction, others?)

Does First Glasgow’s 240 go into Overtown depot to terminate or does it stop outside?

Isn’t there also a low bridge not far from the depot that one of the new 75 branded buses lost its top on? Not great on my Dumbarton routes but think that would affect the 1A? Edit: the more I think about it, that bus might have been off route at the time.

    First Greater Glasgow

Can’t remember the exact route but sure it started in the city centre (Douglas Street, maybe) then up through Shawlands, Thornliebank, Southpark, Priesthill, Silverburn. Not sure which way it took after that but I think it went via Penilee into Braehead. Always thought it was a nice route to drive.

    First Greater Glasgow

Parks and West Coast Motors had coaches ‘on loan’ to First Glasgow around here a while back to help with carrying school kids. Don’t know if that’s what’s happening with this example though, given the schools are meant to be shut.

TRIVIA: What is the bus that sums up your childhood?

I’ll second the KCB Tigers, although it was Motherwell depot for me. As a child, I remember the steps being a challenge for my little legs! Later, I trained in one at First Glasgow’s Larkfield training school, just before they were withdrawn.

TRIVIA: Bus routes in the UK serving at least 3 or more counties

First Glasgow 1B Helensburgh to Glasgow (Argyll & Bute, West Dunbartonshire, City of Glasgow) 6 Clydebank to East Kilbride (West Dunbartonshire, City of Glasgow, South Lanarkshire). Services like the old 267 Newmains to Glasgow would have served three (North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire...

    Edinburgh Tram developments

Maybe a daft question but what is a logistics hub? Is it something to do with the building project itself or is it for when the trams are operational?

    PCV Licence Question

The phrase the woman at the DVLA used when I enquired a few weeks ago was “Once you’ve passed the test, you’ve passed the test”. I haven’t heard of the 10 year rule.

    PCV Licence Question

I had a similar issue. Passed PCV in 2007, medically restricted for 5 years. When it expired in 2012, I didn’t bother to renew as I wasn’t in the bus industry. I contacted the DVLA recently and they told me to send in an application form (D2) and a medical form (D4). My worry was that I’d have...

The Larkfield Depot fire of May 1992 - Vehicles lost, hire-ins & permanent replacements

Knowing nothing about any fires at the depot, I remember being perplexed when I started at Larkfield in the mid-2000’s as to why “The Shed” was called “The Shed” when there was nothing shed-like about it.

    First Greater Glasgow

Yes, it was run by Cumbernauld depot when I was with First in the late 00s. I think it interworked with one of their X services.

Surprised to see a Stagecoach liveried open top decker in Caledonia depot earlier. Any ideas?
