    Dinting - Hadfield

Looks to be a 'Covid' issue. Attached are the Timetables issued May 2020 and May 2021. In the May 2020 issue, five Monday to Friday morning trains ran MAN - HDF - GLO - MAN and six evening ones ran MAN - GLO - HDF - MAN. In the May 2021 issue, there was just the one morning trip MAN - HDF...

Great reports above. Thanks for sharing. @Omnidekkalover @YorkRailFan @TheGrandWazoo and @RELL6L in particular - I picked up on several comments about the 172, 'the pretty way' between Matlock and Bakewell. I thought you might like to see my pic below, from 28 January 1986. Silver...

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

In similar vein to @CaptainHaddock 's post #8493 - below is an image of the booking page for an Asian restaurant. I've deliberately removed the name & contact number. How many 'Pepole' do we know?

Trains all at a stand in the Manchester area... (Thursday afternoon 06AUG2026)

Itr's pretty simple, really. Building in contingency / redundancy has a cost. Not having adequate contingency / redundancy has a cost. Someone, somewhere, made a decision about how much contingency / redundancy was appropriate. Whether that decision was right or wrong depends very much on...

Yes. Lots of long bridges. But it's their height above the road that tends to be the issue!

    Liverpool City Region-Bus Franchising

This one, perhaps? (Link leads to to BBC News website with headline "Woman and two babies hurt in bus and car crash"). Quote from that page: "A woman in her 40s and two babies were taken to hospital after a crash involving a bus and a car, police have said. Merseyside Police said the bus...

Things which cause bus boarding/alighting to be slower now than 40 years ago.

With respect, that's not the only way. You could make all bus services free to use. Problem solved. Oh - and as a bonus, it immediately reduces to zero the amount of revenue lost to fares evasion. (Cue someone complaining that such a move would devalue the ENCTS pass, so is discriminatory...

Why should I trust rail travel?

Be careful what you wish for. The easiest solution to this is to suppress demand by increasing fares. Particularly so when resources are scarce. This is undoubtedly discriminatory against those in society with less discretionary cash available, but hey-ho, it's the way of the world.

Bus services that enter private property (except shopping centres/supermarkets/works only)

Stagecoach East Midlands 17 runs into the Haven 'Cleethorpes Beach' Holiday Park at the south end of its route. Also, local service 9 does the same thing Monday - Saturday evenings and all day Sunday. My pics below of Volvo / Wright Eclipse 16965 passing through the barriers last month on the...
