Unelectrified transfer lines in London (Private Eye)

That’s what that battery powered 08 is for.

Coronavirus: what impact might it have on the railways?

In the office below mine most people have cleared out their monitors and chairs! In my office itself some monitors have gone but that's about it.

    Most exhilarating station approach

I really liked the descent down to East Croydon on the Quarry lines but only in a class 319. Sitting under the pantograph with all of the hoppers open and hearing that thrash made my hairs stand on end, especially with the train lurching all over the place.

Crossrail opening delayed (opening date not yet known)

So NR posted a video showing how a plain tunnel gets fitted out - I found this quite interesting, especially the machinery that drilled holes into the lining for all of the conduits.

Most Depressing Stretch of Line on the Network

Any railway within a two to three mile radius of Loughborough Junction. You can literally feel your life expectancy draining away travelling around there. But I do like Denmark Hill station itself.

Slight changes you would make to liveries to make them nicer

I wish that GWR kept the black chevron which used to border the cab window when it was introduced on the Merlin livery.

What is your favourite station in the UK?

I really like Denmark Hill, would have loved to have seen what the station was like before the pub took over most of it.

    iPhone touchscreens on Class 800/801

It happened with my Pixel 3 as well when using both Pixel or Apple chargers. I'm just going to call it and say the trains have a fault and that's the end of it. Those suppression devices wouldn't have been fitted on the GWR IETs otherwise.

    iPhone touchscreens on Class 800/801

I have the same issue with my Pixel 3 and its charger. I also tried my MBP charger and that made no difference.

    Great Western Electrification Progress

On the 14th June I travelled on 1B91 to Bristol Parkway, between Reading the Didcot the train spent some time on the relief lines but when it was time to move back onto the fast lines it stopped dead, turned on the Diesel engines and then moved to the fast lines (I'm not sure which junction but...

The UK's most 'classic' medium-sized stations

I think Denmark Hill is really nice - does that qualify?

Two views of one line from one spot?

I do like the view of the coastway and the bridge over the Itchen as you pull out of Southampton Central.

    Favourite Locomotive names?

I really liked 56312 and its unique livery when it was called Artemis.

What is your controversial railway opinion/idea?

Trains need to be automated but with humans retained for guard duties only. Buffets can be replaced with vending machines.
