Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

The "British built" deffo confirms that for me, but as they are not party to any government funding, I don't think such an obligation was ever inferred. In fact had they gone with Volvo's preference, they'd be MCV bodied, so they've done the UK industry a favour by speccing XLBs again.

First Rail Stirling (Lumo) Rolling Stock

Hopefully ScotRail's more extensive sounding refurb will handle a lot of it, and recent painful experience in taking on and learning a new fleet (when they took the HSTs on) will influence how good a support package they take on and how realistic they are about introducing them to traffic...

3rd round of Scottish Zero Emission funding announced

On page 60 it states "Of the nine applications received, six met the minimum scoring thresholds and were shortlisted for discussion" So 9 received 5 agreed 4 rejected 3 of those 4 were thrown out straight away.

I do remember them all getting new batteries for the hybrid drivetrain a number of years back, I do wonder that they are being withdrawn when those fail, rather than replace them again?

Free Bus Travel for young people: Soon to be in England.

I do agree that there should be some mechanism to remove passes from trouble makers, but given that doing so wouldn't bar them from travelling on the appropriate fare and causing trouble anyway doesn't solve anything. Youth Hooliganism is similar to Drug Policy in a way. There is no simple...

I hope you said this loudly and in a German accent :D

9 is still a more than 20% uplift in seats, plus the visibility of available seats will be much better. I've got everything crossed these are for ECB.

Thanks that puts a good deal of speculation to rest, my own included!

That just further firms up my belief then, these will be the same as the first batch. If some are for LCB/ECB it would be easy to program the on board announcements for particular stops that are unsuitable for the centre door to include "exit via the front door only" or words to that effect...

In that case I'll be surprised if they aren't 13.4m and dual door, as if they aren't that's two bits of re-engineering ADL would have to do, and they'd need to incorporate an emergency exit door to make it three big changes.

Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

I believe it's because 12.8m is the longest version MCV have bodied and they've bodied them for years since the last 13.4m XLB was built. So people either know the longer variant has been discontinued by Volvo, or assuming 12.8m is the max due to that all what's been made for years. I am...

I like it, makes sense. Can imagine a few places they could fit, specifically around tenders currently operated, and others that could be picked up on the next round of bidding.

I didn't run the numbers but that sounds better than I first thought. Plus the current airlinks would rejoin main fleet after refurb which is another few. As an ECB punter I'd rejoice at seeing the back of 51-65 - don't care for them at all. Are you theorising there or is that based on...

Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

Yeah I can't see the ScotZEB order being cancelled, politically it's committed. Not like there has been massive change on that front. It's a decent haul but it's going to leave 11 plate deckers in service beyond their 15th year as there was so many of those bought natively, before you add in...

Are the Evora's all for the main Lothian fleet? Presumably to axe the older B7RLEs and some more 7900s?

I don't have any pictures at all I'm afraid and could only suggest searching the registration in Google above the flicker suggestion above. I do remember when it was "new" in Dumbarton around the mid 90s. I don't remember any fanfare, it largely ran on the D4 and D5 which I never had reason to...
