    Glasgow Subway New Driverless Trains

Last Saturday (25th) I rode a new train from Partick to Buchanan Street. I went the scenic route via Govan, under the Clyde. Anyway, I didn't find the ride very comfortable. Although the train was modern, it seems the track had not been refurbished/replaced for a long time, as the ride was...

Lack of train orders in the next five years & what should be done about it

Furthermore, as many prematurely displaced fleets have now been reassigned other duties, albeit sometimes for train lengthening, there is less life-expired stock around than usual. Examples are 379s from Greater Anglia to Great Northern, 68s from TPE to Chiltern, 175s from TfW to GWR and 350/2s...

Advance Tickets: When you have to use a different train due to cancellations

It is better customer care to allow the sensible flexibility in such circumstances like you say. It also has the advantage that it spreads the passengers from the cancelled trains to the running trains either side, rather than forcing everybody with Advance tickets onto the following train, or...

    EMR Regional and Connect refurbishments

Thank you for your explanation for the development of that unit (and potentially others).

    EMR Regional and Connect refurbishments

On Wednesday I travelled on an EMR 158, which I was surprised to see had new purple/grey interiors but still had Stagecoach EMT livery. (Sorry, I didn't note the fleet number). Anyway, I imagined that repaints may have been effectively suspended pending GBR livery, but that photo suggests...

    Class 185s post-TRU

Sure, but I was also considering 165s displaced from Chiltern to GWR if replaced by 185s.

Advance Tickets: When you have to use a different train due to cancellations

When my TPE train to Liverpool was cancelled on Wednesday, the assistant at the information desk at Sheffield recommended the earlier EMR train. I questioned whether my Advance ticket would be valid and he remarked the train companies work together now. Admittedly I was only travelling as far...

    Class 185s post-TRU

The spare 185s could be cascaded to Chiltern for London Marylebone - Birmingham/Oxford services not using ex TPE loco stock. Any spare 168s could enable the early 165s to be replaced, or cascaded to GWR to replace Sprinters still in service even after the 175s are all in use.

Wales plan to take over 10% of UK rail network

It seems fair to allow the Senedd as much say into decisions affecting Network Rail in Wales as the Scottish Parliament have in decisions affecting Network Rail in Scotland. There would need to be a clause allowing the UK government to regain control in case, for example, a Reform-led Senedd...

Best coffee shops on the network?

Cafe Local at Carlisle station provided a good latte last week. I think it was also a Cafe Local I liked at Sheffield station too.

    Supermarkets discussion

A few days ago I saw tins of chicken in white sauce and chilli con carne. Sainsbury's own brand cost £2.40, while Princes cost £2.50, reduced to £2.25 for Nectar card holders. It seemed odd that they were making their own brand tins more expensive than Princes for Nectar card holders.

    Budget hotels discussion

I stayed at a nearby Premier Inn, Cambridge A14, a few weeks before Christmas last year. Due to the shortage of takeaways in the area, and because I'd had a pizza at home the previous evening, I went for the PI meal deal. I caught the train to Cambridge North and walked from there, albeit a 40...

    Arriva North East

My BYD ride last Monday was 8009, on route 43 from Newcastle Haymarket to Cramlington. I then caught a 57a (E400) to Ashington to ride the train back to Newcastle on the recently reopened line. I felt superficially temped to ride a 26 reg E400-MMC for having orange rather than white poles.

    Arriva North East

Oh, I forgot about X5/X15. I shall check the routes again, but just want a combo of routes to see both Stanley and Consett, preferably without duplicates. It is the Arriva BYD (and Go North East E200EV) I am looking forward to most.

Protocol for presenting split tickets for on-train inspection?

I travelled from Manchester Victoria to Hebden Bridge in May. The conductor was asking a lot of people whether they were travelling further. He probably wanted to check that everybody had paid for their full intended journey. My return leg was from Bradford Interchange. I started out with a...

Perhaps the worst bit is how they let other people "queue jump" you. They should have allowed people to form a queue ready for 15.00

In which case, it was a bit dim of him to resign and force a by-election before the GM Mayor by-election was done and dusted.
