    The 2024 US presidential election.

I've just read a comment below a YouTube video showing Trump's increasingly deranged ravings at one of his rallies. In it, the writer describes his drooling audience as ''the gullibillies.''

Rees-Mogg reinvents himself as a comedian?

Yet he revealed in a Times newspaper magazine article a few years ago that his maternal grandfather had been a lorry driver, though he quickly changed the subject in the interview when his children's nanny came into the room!

Things in living memory which seem very anachronistic now

Reverse charge calls from phone boxes used by impoverished teenagers BRS (British Road Services) lorries, which dated from the nationalisation of both the railway industry and part of the road transport industry in 1948. I believe Pickfords Removals, which still exists, formed part of this...

    Supermarkets discussion

My local Tesco had five card only and two cash/card self-checkouts, but in last couple of weeks has changed a card one to take cash as well. Conversely, at the same time RBS took away one of the two cash dispensers in the car park.

You know you’re getting older when……

I had a lady friend who was quite a drinker, whereas I was more abstemious, and she always used to have a pint to my half! Of course, when the bartender put the drinks onto the counter it was always the wrong way round.

An excellent appraisal, if I may say so.

New book from Gareth Dennis - How the Railways Will Fix the Future

I hadn't heard of him, interested if he's had previous books released, because Amazon references none.

The driver's done the right thing though. You could always go up the stairs once the bus is on the move, to save everyone's face.

And destroy its coveted status as one of Cornwall's crappiest towns? ;) 1723921972 Oh, you've visited Warrens then.

    London Buses Discussion

No, the Bassom system was a major part of the London Traffic Act of 1934! I don't offhand remember when it was abandoned, but in the case of the 73 route and its variants it was March 1937 iirc.

    The 2024 US presidential election.

The Kennedy Curse continues. It'd be ironic if his percentage vote decided which of the other contenders won. 1723915657 Or, rather, abandoning a person stiil alive and not reporting the accident for hours afterwards, which ensured they died.

You know you’re getting older when……

I only remember the year when Easter Sunday coincided with my birthday earlier this century, though it apparently happened twice in my childhood too that I'd forgotten about. I count myself as numerate, but I don't think this sort of memory has anything to do with numeracy. More a gift cum...

Take it you're not a fan of FoI! Although misuse, or over-use, may be rife we'd be much more ignorant without it. In any case, many bodies are extremely reluctant to provide information regardless of its potential importance.

    London Buses Discussion

It's exactly 100 years since the Bassom Scheme on London bus route numbering was introduced, named after the head honcho at the Metropolitan Police, and each shortworking on a route had to have a suffix letter attached. It became something of a hobby horse for this individual and continued into...
