East-West Rail (EWR): Consultation updates [not speculation]

Looks like Route A is the clear favourite now with most of the local councils along the route supporting it. As for Cambourne, I agree with the Railfuture submission, it does need much better public transport connections but EWR isn't the way to do it. A well designed Cambridge Metro would be...

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

I just had an idea - rebrand all HS2 plans north of Birmingham to be NPR and suddenly the whole scheme will become a lot popular.

If you are paying around £5 or more for a small can of beer then it damned well should taste good!

That's still no excuse to drink it.

Yes, Fullers is a decent mid-range brewery (apart from London Pride which I have never liked) but you rarely see it outside of London and the Home Counties. The brand (I know how many hate that word) could certainly do with a refresh as the beer market is so crowded these days. You either have...

    Railway Pubs

Simply that there is more money to be made from bars, restaurants and hotels than from actually making the beer. Whitbread was a struggling company until it got out of the brewing business but have been very successful with Premier Inn, its restaurant chains and Costa Coffee (which it recently...

    Railway Pubs

I passed through Liverpool St at the weekend and saw they had an Opening Soon sign outside a new Fullers pub on the mezzanine level. The area isn't short of watering holes but it's always nice to have a little more choice.

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

Yes, that's what I meant. Once HS2 is open then that will allow major works on the southern end of the WCML by using HS2 to divert capacity allowing the WCML work to be done quicker.

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

There is no doubt that upgrade work is required on the WCML but I suspect that it wouldn't be able to happen at scale until HS2 is completed

    Cambridge South new station opening

One year later... Article in today's Cambridge News about the possibility of a "pop up" station though mostly it just repeats things we already know such as Adonis' claim that "it just needs a platform"...

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

Indeed. Investment in infrastructure doesn't guarantee economic benefits but it is very hard to get them without it.

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

In the scope of spending tens of billions on the whole scheme they could have found a bit of money to spend on some PR consultants to come up with a more imaginative and inspiring name.

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

The whole branding and marketing of HS2 has been terrible since the start. Even worse is "Phase 2a" and "Phase 2b" which make the northern extensions seem like afterthoughts.

East-West Rail (EWR): Consultation updates [not speculation]

I found this draft response from South Cambs Council supporting (as I expected) a station at Cambourne (routes B and E) and a southern approach into Cambridge http://scambs.moderngov.co.uk/documents/s110322/Appendix 1 - EWR Consultation - Draft South Cambs response.pdf Cambridge City council...

East-West Rail (EWR): Consultation updates [not speculation]

With the County Council going for route A it will be interesting to see which way South Cambs and Cambridge City councils go. I expect the City Council to go for A too but South Cams is going to be harder to predict as their HQ is in Camborne.

East-West Rail (EWR): Consultation updates [not speculation]

If money was no object then I would totally support this. Maybe it could be done as "EWR 2".
