Tyne and wear metro new trains overhead line issues

It seems that compared other light rail/tram systems in the UK, T&W Metro's overhead wires fail a bit too frequently?

K&ESR trials Gaming Carriage during May Half term holidays

I've noticed that there seems to be a lack of uniqueness amongst the UK's heritage railways, with each line seemingly simply playing off the past of British railways. There is little information about the local customs. For example, there is no information at the station to tell tourists what...

    Why do non-enthusiasts volunteer?

The volunteers at the station cafe are likely to be just regular people, and it is unrealistic to expect everyone to have the same passion on heritage railways. People who handle money and high-value items are more required to be professional, and whether or not they are a railway spotter is...

Hastings East Hill Lift - UK's most expensive rail journey?

I don't think London Eye is a means of transportation. In UK, is the East Hill Lift and other cliff railways considered as rail line rather than a lift? Is it under the management and supervision of the Ministry of Transport?

    Japan Tips

If you want taking some "unique" lines, there are a few suggestions. Some may be too "railfan" and not consider the scenery: Tokyo Toden Arakawa Line - The only surviving tram line of Tokyo's once vast tram system. Chiba Urban Monorail - The world's longest suspended monorail system. Tokyo...

Towns or Cities where you were born or lived that have declined or improved over the years

One of the big problems facing Birmingham is the large number of vacant office buildings, which greatly limited its future development in urban reconstruction.

Is there enough safeguarding/vetting checks being carried out in the rail industry?

This is not an exaggeration considering that the South Manchuria Railway once had its own powerful spies and troops.

Is there enough safeguarding/vetting checks being carried out in the rail industry?

Obviously, monitors did not prevent the sexual assault in this case. If enhanced DBS is needed to meet the requirements of some of the people involved, I very much doubt whether it is sufficient. As far as I know, this just a system that check people's past criminal records and cannot assess...

Is there enough safeguarding/vetting checks being carried out in the rail industry?

I remember similar incidents in Japan that led to a huge public outrage, that was during the economic crisis and accompanied with a series of vicious cases. This forced the government to do some preliminary research, which concluded that there were over a million "high-risk people" in the...

Is there enough safeguarding/vetting checks being carried out in the rail industry?

I don't think this person has any bad intentions, but is instead trapped in a polarized "yes or no" mindset - the occurrence of an assault case, it means that all railway employees are at risk of becoming sexual assaulters - it's either all or nothing, either absolutely safe or absolutely...

Is there enough safeguarding/vetting checks being carried out in the rail industry?

You have to believe that absolute security does not exist. No matter how strict the inspection is, sporadic incidents will still occur, most of which are completely isolated.

Is there enough safeguarding/vetting checks being carried out in the rail industry?

So for your “absolute perfect security”, a DBS check isn’t enough, but double or even triple checks are needed? I guess that won’t be cheap. (PS. How much cost for a DBS check?)

Future disruption on the Cumbria Coast route.

Mining activities permanently change the underground structure, with closed mines gradually flooded. Over the past 30 years the mine may have filled with water and started to overflow and carrying with iron minerals.

The Labour Party under Andy Burnham

Unlike physical objects and actual projects, the biggest problem with "soft power" projects is that they are difficult to quantify, which makes it difficult to judge whether the project is a success or a failure, or whether it is complete corruption and fraud. There are lot of stories about how...

    Russia invades Ukraine

Obviously, the bargaining chips at the negotiating table depend on the military and industrial strength. Although the Russians did not do well enough, the complete destruction of Russian industry and the complete loss of heavy weapons and equipment that many Western observers expected over past...

Why have the rules on photography at some visitor attractions become more relaxed?

I think the more bizarre rule is that you are free to take photos, but not allowed to record videos. Such rules are enforced in some museums in London.
