Should physical barriers be installed to prevent access to platforms shortly before trains depart?

In that case the train is advertised in the public facing timetable as departing at 19:58 but in the working timetable as departing at 20:00.

East-West Rail (EWR) countdown to entry into service

As no doubt some of the more militant reps will be spinning a fantasy, that once Chiltern launch DOO on the new Oxford - Milton Keynes service, they will expand DOO to cover Banbury - Birmingham on the units, putting your jobs at risk etc etc. The RMT don't like the proposed set-up of GBR...

How busy are EMR peak services?

Also depends on the day At least with no seat reservations on EMR, it's first come first served, so as long as you board the service when it gets announced you will probably get a seat, board it 3 minutes before departure on a Wednesday, then you will probably end up standing

East-West Rail (EWR) countdown to entry into service

Are the RMT trying to somehow spin that Oxford - Milton Keynes will somehow undermine other Chiltern services? Especially when Chiltern have increased number of guards to support additional loco hauled services when previously the guard would leave a southbound train at Banbury.

    Filling in missing classes

Best bet for the TfW 230 is probably a trip on Merseyrail passing Birkenhead depot, as there is usually at least 1 parked outside

Trivia: oldest station with the same rolling stock it had when it opened

I've had 153s & 143s on the summer Sunday services before they disappeared.

Trivia: oldest station with the same rolling stock it had when it opened

Other than the very occasional 379 when they ended up on stopping services

Thameslink to replace cushions on class 700 ironing board seats to improve comfort.. Finally..

Regarding the new seat cushions on the 700s, the proof will be when the first 700 comes out with the new seat cushions to see if it is indeed an improvement over the current seats. After-all seats are very much subjective, what could be OK for someone could be awful for someone else (As for...

Trivia: oldest station with the same rolling stock it had when it opened

Okehampton Interchange, served by 150s (along with other units)? Out of those Scottish stations, the only one which doesn't have modern (ish) stock call is Sanquhar with 156s. Although I've got no clue how long the 156s have been on the Glasgow - Dumfries - Carlisle line, and if it opened...

    Lumo's poor service in general

How can a train which is standard class only be running in reverse formation?

The end of 387 on Cambridge fasts

I'm sure at one point when splitting/joining at Cambridge was more frequent the unit (s) which was getting detached from a northbound train remained on the platform at Cambridge with the southbound train attaching to them around 10 or so minutes later.

TfW ‘Active Travel’ Class 153 progress updates

Is AT06 still out of action at Canton, or has it been put back together and is back in service?

Euston - Edinburgh Sunday 30 August seat reservations

If you can't get a seat reservation on the Glasgow fast then the best bet is to be at Euston early so you can be one of the first to board when the train gets announced. If it's a 9 coach then aim for coach C, if it's a 11 coach then G & U are also unreserved.

Had to use another TOC because last Northern train of the day cancelled - would my ticket have been allowed?

For all the operators which are nationised. EMR are included between Liverpool & Sheffield/Nottingham only I believe

    Kite goes Exploring, Trip Reports

All to easy to miss the small platform number signs at Sunderland in the poor light at platform level. Something in the style (similar to the West London line stations) like 'Metro Trains don't stop here, move along the platform' with an arrow.

Is Great Northern potentially “false advertising” First Class?

Complete agreed, I can see at some point "Greater Thameslink Railway" ditching 1st class completely, similar with South Eastern and using it as spin that more seats are available.

    Kite goes Exploring, Trip Reports

11 – 16th August Trips (North East, Staffordshire, Kenilworth) I booked a guest house in Whitley Bay for 3 nights with multiple ideas for walks, some of those ideas got put back on ice due to the hot weather forecasted, but like always with my North East trips I changed my mind more times than...

Companies That You Expect to Disappear Soon

I'm guessing the 1st floor used to be the book department when people used to buy books on the high street? (Similar to some of the stores around here, although I can't say if the top floors in those still exist as I've not been in the stores for years, and in the case of Basingstoke the store...

    Trivia: False destinations on trains

In a normal timetable there is a Waterloo - Westbury service which goes via the Yeovil stations first (16:50 from Waterloo). Advertised at Waterloo & stations towards Salisbury as heading to Frome to save someone boarding it wanting Westbury itself.
