    Eurostar question - Lille

Anyone entering the UK currently has to have a completed form (online or paper) which you can only complete within 48 hours of your return journey. This is required for Eurostar, ferry or air passengers. You have to specify any country you've been to in the previous 14 days. So, for example...

Thello - Paris to Italy, Marseille/Nice to Italy

I think that summer 2021 is a reasonable hope. They have been rolling forward the suspension of services every few weeks but with the lower passengers in the autumn and winter it makes sense, I suppose to forget about it for at least 6 months. Only a few months ago Thello (a subsidiary of...

Thello - Paris to Italy, Marseille/Nice to Italy

Thello have now cancelled their overnight Paris-Milan-Venice trains indefinitely. A great pity as this good value route was ideal for those travelling from points nort in the UK. I can imagine that demand is low and if its not possible to share a couchette compartment with strangers then the...

    Manchester to Barcelona or Venice

I'd agree that Turin is a good place for a day or two stopover. Much more interesting place than Milan and is on the direct route. Genoa is also an interesting place with lots of history though "gritty" in parts. Adds a bit of distance and time but has the advantage of easy options to pootle...

    Lothian Buses and ECB Discussion

You need to pay cash and put in the slot for a paper day ticket. Tapping can't pay for anything other than a single adult fare (which may be capped).

    Manchester to Barcelona or Venice

I can recommend the overnight Thello sleeper from Paris to Venice. I've used this route to get from Edinburgh to Milan, but the sleeper train continues on to Venice. It is currently suspended, but if you're travelling next year, it should be running by then. Fares are very reasonable though...

Thello - Paris to Italy, Marseille/Nice to Italy

Just in case you're stuck with specific dates and other options by train don't work out in I see Flixbus seem to have restarted the direct night bus from Paris on 15th July leaving at 0030, arriving Milan at 1320. Nothing like as comfortable as the train but at £41.99 it is a possible option...

Thello - Paris to Italy, Marseille/Nice to Italy

Just had an email regarding my Milan to Marseille journey planned for mid June and which was cancelled a few weeks ago. I will get my credit card refund within 48 hours. More excellent service and no questions of trying to fob me off with credits for future use. Excellent service.

Thello - Paris to Italy, Marseille/Nice to Italy

All overnight sleepers Paris - Venice via Milan now cancelled untl 30th June. Nice to Milan (twice daily) restarts on 4th June. No date for the Marseille service to restart. I was booked on a Paris to Milan couchette next month. I used the payment and electronic ticketing via the Trenitalia...

Need to travel from Bicester to Aberdeen

If you choose to travel via London and Edinburgh you must book your seat. Though technically there is no actual seat reservation, its just that they are capacity controlling the number of passengers to ensure social distancing. Not sure whether this is done automatically if booking advance...

    Newcastle to Munich via Train

Don't think anyone has mentioned the alternative sea crossing on Stena Line Harwich to Hoek van Holland. Fares can be surprisingly competitive and its a very easy and comfortable journey. You could leave Nottingham at around 5pm via London or Peterborough and get the night boat arriving in...

Getting from Burton on Trent to Heathrow (after this is over)

There is also the Euston option with a change at Tamworth. You may be able to get a significantly cheaper walk up fare as you avoid Avanti West Coast. If you want to keep out of Central London what about the Reading option - with the direct coach service right outside the station. The route...
