Fined by GWR at Paddington, not sure if its worth appealing

If you tap a continuation exit reader and encounter an RPI, bad things may occur. See this thread for a recent horror story: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/advice-for-arguing-penalty-fare-despite-tap-in-during-journey.305030/

Delay repay - what can I claim for in this mess…

I think the OP held a through Advance from Fareham to Reading, a walk-up ticket from Smethwick to Winchester, and a walk-up ticket from St Denys to Reading. The itinerary on the through Advance ticket included a change at Winchester, so they bought the walk-up ticket from Smethwick with the...

    Converting Rail Announcement Files

I didn't know about the .pcc saga until this evening, so reading the last thread and this one has been an epic narrative! Exciting to see that it has a good ending.

Lewes derailment - Thursday 13th August

    Brighton-bound, I believe it's 10mph out of Lewes.

Hot weather off-peak semi-fast Met trains

My partner reports that their southbound ex Uxbridge train just changed from all stations to semi-fast at Harrow, well off peak (20 past two).

    East Anglia tips and tricks

Thank you so much everyone for the replies. Fantastic. I didn't know that one - is that something relatively new or have I been missing out? Also a great tip, thank you. Good one to flag up as people might not think of that - thank you. Fortunately (or unfortunately), our staff don't have to...

Using multiple tickets for one journey should be banned, with passengers forced to exit the train at the split point

Can I ask why? Sheer neatness? There are lots of situations we can imagine where someone ends up with split tickets not to save money but because it's the most natural thing to do. For example, if you buy an Advance from, say, Leeds to Exeter, expecting to go to the main Leeds station. But on...

Should there be discretion on Delay Repay thresholds?

You must have thought the staff were making that one up when they announced the reason for the delay in getting the doors open.

SWR cracking down on Vauxhall - Waterloo doughnuts/short fares - Also GTR

Whilst I am sympathetic to the underlying argument that disabling e-ticket fulfilment for tickets often used for short faring is problematic for split ticketing, I think that this particular observation may be true. Playing around with Trainsplit, I haven't been able to get it to offer me...

Should there be discretion on Delay Repay thresholds?

I would have to agree with Watershed and redreni here. If the train comes to a stand 10 minutes before the doors can be safely released, most wouldn't be impressed at being told their journey wasn't delayed by 10 minutes! Furthermore, as I understand it, if we are being as pedantic as this, the...

Why is TfL's web site rubbish

Hence trains being held to regulate the service.

Should there be discretion on Delay Repay thresholds?

This strikes me as over-complicating the situation somewhat, when a stock +1 min 30s or so could be added to the time the train entered the station. The special circumstances where a train is both (a) right on the exact DR threshold and (b) held at the platform, or otherwise after having entered...

Should there be discretion on Delay Repay thresholds?

But eminently believable. Appropriately enough, given the topic of this thread, I have a pending DR claim where the train was delayed by only just two hours (RTT says 128 minutes). If Southeastern accepts that as 2 hours, I'll get £150.00, otherwise, only £70.00! Perverse incentive or not, as...

GWR accused of disrupting Wales-England train links by Welsh Government

With the Lumo and the new TfW services, would there be terminating capacity at Carmarthen? (I don't know the answer, happy to be told that there is!)

    East Anglia tips and tricks

I've been asked to deliver a short fares workshop for staff at the charity I work for this Wednesday afternoon. The main purpose of the workshop will be to migrate staff to a Trainsplit for Business workspace, and explain the basic idea of Railcards and split tickets. However, I am not local to...

Hot weather off-peak semi-fast Met trains

I was surprised to get an off-peak Chesham semi-fast last night. A couple of weeks ago I saw a real rarity - a semi-fast to Uxbridge. I think Uxbridge to Aldgate does regularly have at least one peak semi-fast? I took one of these last week but I don't think that's anomalous.

SWR cracking down on Vauxhall - Waterloo doughnuts/short fares - Also GTR

I broadly share the common sense view that people say they have anxiety after being caught because they're trying to 'pull the mental health card'. Equally - we're not getting a representative sample of all casual fare evaders; we're getting the ones who are genuinely nervous enough to look for...

Is 'South Central' a better name than 'Southern'?

South Central sounds to me like it should cover roughly the same area as London Midland/LNWR. Southern is clearer and also more memorable and elegant.

    Signal outage Swanley (morning 08AUG2026)

1S18 now on the move - I assume that means the signal failure (in deference to Davester) is resolved and it's now just a matter of clearing the clogged lines? EDIT: I'm on the way back now at about 7.00pm and there's still warnings about delays and ticket acceptance with HS1 in place.

    Signal outage Swanley (morning 08AUG2026)

Hearing that there is presently a signalling outage in the St Mary Cray/Swanley area - guard on 1S18 says this is due to a 'massive power surge knocking out all the signals' in the area. 1S18 London Victoria to Ramsgate currently held at an unscheduled stop at Swanley with the doors released as...
