Which heritage lines do and don't have steam bans currently?

Severn Valley still running steam. Loco availability is a little tight atm with just 13268 and 813 in use the past few days. 7714 should be back after washout and 75069 is reserve after ashpan repairs.

    172331 - revised livery

Interesting, from a distance I thought they had been replaced. The etched windows do spoil the fleet so I'm glad something is being done.

Severn Valley Railway to trial commuter services

The walk up Comberton Hill is definitely a challenge for some, particularly the elderly. Next to the big Tesco and the library and college in the town centre. Not a proper covered one, really just a collection of stops. If the fares quoted by SLUG are correct, the add on for a anytime return...

Generally quieter days compared to Tuesday to Thursday. Also this is a trial.

Severn Valley Railway to trial commuter services

This is a post from the Stourbridge Line User Group, who are usually fairly reliable: Still, probably wait and see for certain.

West Midlands Trains Industrial Action July/August 2026

WMR wise we have: Looks like I won't be going into Brum for the cinema then.

Severn Valley Railway to trial commuter services

The argument goes that there is a lot of house building going on. And there is, a lot of houses have been built at the Kidderminster end of town and the large field next to Sandbourne viaduct and the by-pass bridge is being built on at the moment. Whether it is enough to make the scheme viable...

Either WMR or West Midlands Rail Executive (WMRE). I'd have to double check which.

Severn Valley Railway to trial commuter services

There have several ideas floated in the past. They last for a few months (maybe a little longer) before disappearing. I personally remain very sceptical of the scheme. Fortunately, as I understand it, the SVR is getting paid during the trial irrespective of usage.

Severn Valley Railway to trial commuter services

The DMU is planned to be used most of the time. The trial dates also cover the thursdays of both the Autumn Steam and Diesel Galas. Certainly for the ASG, the 'commuter' service will be steam.

    Hagley Hall - slight bump?

The incident is currently being investigated to determine the exact causes. Fortunately no-one was injured. The damage to 4930 is being determined (there was a set of buffer stops in front of those doors).

I don't believe it has been used for some time, and I overheard a conversation that it needs significant modernisation.

£33.4 million for next batch of ticket gates

If they resurrect the improvement work that were proposed before covid, only one set of barriers would be need as the travel centre and ticket office area would be opened up and combined. See the pic here for more details...

Heat related disruption 8 July 2026 onwards

In addition to potential fires, hot weather can affect steam locos directly. If the water in the tanks get too hot, the injectors will not work properly which means you can't get water into the boiler. We had such problems today and Wednesday on the Severn Valley with 7714 getting too hot.
