As a revenue officer the best thing to do it admit to the guilt and request that you pay an out of court settlement. What you did was classed as a short fare ( paying a cheaper fare than where you should have payed from ) if it goes to court you will receive a criminal record. Apologise profusely and say you won't ever do it again. But inevitably you will be at the mercy of there decision.
