WIthout getting all political i'd have thought it was easy by just blaming the 'last lot' and go bleating on about the state it was left in.

The BBC article linked in #7702 has been republished with an added Heidi Alexander apology, on account of her visit to Derby to unveil the new GBR Chair and HQ. It's good to see her taking some accountability for the performance of her contractors, as any other service provider would be expected to.

I saw nothing else of note, but link below for completeness. Off-topic for this thread, but part of the fallout from the the Cl222/810 fiasco is the limited attention to the dreadful performance of Connect (not able to find 12 working units today either). I don't think this is causing anything like the embarrassment and action by senior folk that it should be.

Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander has apologised for East Midlands Railway (EMR) services being "unacceptable" due to problems with a new fleet of trains.

Issues with the new Aurora (Class 810) fleet led to months of delays, cancellations and overcrowding on services, as well as strike action by RMT union members.

810010 terminated at Chesterfield after working 1F35 from London, as it was getting progressively later throughout its journey.

It’s return service from Chesterfield to London seems to be running okay (for now).

810006 hasn't left St Pancras yet on the 1735, National Rail departure boards state fault on train.

It’s all hot air from Alexander. The apology is emptier than the vacuum in space.

If she genuinely meant the apology, she would have apologised as soon as things got chronic. Instead, the government have finally realised that they have egg on their faces, blaming the previous government is a tired excuse and that any issues with GBR are down to them.

Before Alexander apologises, the CEO of Hitachi should have ‘Fallen on his sword’ for bringing disrepute to his company! But in the real world, politicians only set strategic policies because they don’t necessarily have the expertise to do more.

Absolutely. We thought the class 800 introduction was a bit of a farce but that was a cakewalk compared to the 810s, Having said that EMR and DfT walked right into it, what with running a around six diagrams a day of flawed trains, whilst other units everywhere except carrying passengers, nearly four years after they should have been in squadron service. What actually is being achieved by pootling around Long Marston, or thrashing along at 125mph on the mainline ?

There's an alternate universe where EMR instead ordered a fleet of 9-car 80X units with the original bodyshell lengths and spared us all from this constant chaotic clusterfudgery.

I just hope Hitachi are taking some financial pain over this. However hindsight they would be better buying a fleet of 9 car and 5 cars like every else did. Then using 5 cars on less used diagrams. Hindsight is great as purchasing from a manufacturer with experience in this type of product should be a no brainer. I am not sure how many people at the time of the order realised if has a high risk totally new product.

They have paid many many millions in penalty payments as part of the contract.

Maybe it's because she had to go to Derby and her train from St Pancras was late? Could have alternatively gone from her constituency in Swindon, but that'd have meant going on crowded Cross Country from Bristol PW or Oxford.

Or perhaps she took a car because they've opted politically and put the GBR HQ 20 mins walk from the station to help Derby regenerate a rundown ex shopping centre rather than on the alternative adjacent railway land at the station.

They will NOT earn the highly sought after Gr8 Br1tish R4ailways name
Yeah right worreva !!!
Are you seriously suggesting that EMR is not taken into DFTO hence GBR ?

Actually there is one way of doing it. Do a "one" on it. Sidestep EMR, and bring XC into DFTO, then merge XC and parts of EMR into an ambiguous name like erm "Cityrider" or something similar.

The Turbostar parts of EMR could merge with the Turbostar operations of XC to form something like "connectrail" and maybe have some 2nd gen Arterio Stream battery units - bringing continued employment to Derby, as 170s will be knocking towards their 35th birthdays. .

You could even call it Central Trains.

It's easy to go through the whole farce with a fine tooth-comb and say that the powers-that-be should clearly have foreseen it turning out this way, and therefore the order should have been changed, or the specification changed, or whatever, and that therefore such-and-such is at fault. Ultimately, though, I fail to see why it should have been instantly foreseen that what is ultimately an 80x with shorter carriages should have had such a disproportionately troubled introduction, even bearing in mind the issues with the 800s and the 385s. I'm sure that the units will eventually settle down (as long as they've been welded together properly), but the fact that their introduction has been so much rockier than their sisters' isn't something that I think EMR or the DfT could or should have seen in a crystal ball. If these issues had happened with every single Hitachi product, then I would agree with that view.

Does anyone have any info on how the debugging work is going and how long before more sets arrive? We seem to have been stuck at 022 being the newest for months now.
