some parts of cities are no go areas,

I was watching a TikTok by a Londoner who confirmed that there are definitely no go areas in London.

After hearing the list, I fully agree.

The list included:
- swimming in the Thames
- between the tracks on the Central Line

And as few other tongue in cheek comments, but yes, places you wouldn't want to find yourself!

Any particular areas or states out of interest?
Chicago has been pretty bad, but seems to be quiet at the moment, and of course we saw what happened in Minneapolis earlier in the year. Apparently Vermont of all places is going through a surge of activity at present. "Foreign-looking" folk should avoid the southern border states, naturally, since the Supreme Court ruled that looking Hispanic was grounds to be stopped and detained by ICE.

The whole of London was a no-go area for Trump on his last state visit as far as I can gather. But that was for excellent reasons!

It would've been a no-go zone for at least several days after he left. After all, you need at least some time to get rid of the smell...

The White House has now deployed 'bullsh*t Barbie' mk2, who makes her predecessor look like an intellectual giant by comparison.
She stumbled through a pre-scripted intrfoduction, took three questions all from right wing media, then closed the briefing after 14 minutes.
Numerous reports from American media on YT, choose your preferred flavour but even Fox weren't very impressed.

Edit to add one example:
Quote:
Donald Trump’s new press secretary has only given one media briefing, but critics are already predicting she won’t last long.

Katie Zacharia’s time at the podium was rather awkward and lasted just 14 minutes, with one gaff seeing her refer to her new boss as her husband.

Jimmy Kimmel noted in a rather mean monologue on his show that “her reading is good for an 11-year-old" and recalled her ascent to the White House by “calling Democrats paedophiles on social media and giving weight to Pizzagate”.

The former conservative cable news commentator, who succeeded Karoline Leavitt in the press role, spent the first half of the briefing reading aloud a list of the Trump administration's second-term economic and policy achievements.

She then took questions from just three reporters, which The Mirror's US Political Editor said she answered in the time it takes to "microwave a jacket potato", before declaring the session over and leaving the room amid shouted follow-ups.

When one reporter asked if the US had stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine following recent Russian airstrikes, Ms Zacharia claimed she did not know the answer and stated, "I'll have to get back to you on that."

She also laughed off a Freudian slip where she mistakenly referred to her husband as "my president" when answering a question about balancing her new role with family life.
End quote.

I think she's actually mk3, because Kayleigh McEnany at the end of his first administration was the prototype

Don't forget Kellyanne Conway. He obviously likes the letter K.

I think he made a big mistake making Karoline Leavitt stay on a plane Trump thought might get blown up. She resigned two days later!

She was a professional liar and, to be honest, really good at it. The new one, erm, isn't - although she's going to provide daily entertainment for content creators.

Ah yes, the classic:

At the first official briefing by a White House press secretary in 417 days, Kayleigh McEnany promised journalists, “I will never lie to you.”

McEnany proceeded to say a bunch of things that weren’t true

Anyway, another normal day for Trump ...

The family of a man killed by a tiger at a wildlife park in the UK have spoken about their “severe distress” at the circulation of online media after Donald Trump reposted a video of the incident.

William Chapman, 23, was mauled to death after entering an enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, near Doncaster, on Saturday.

His family described him as “bright, warm and engaging” and suffering from severe mental illness. They said online footage being shared was “deeply offensive” and causing them “severe distress”.

One of those to circulate footage was the US president who posted a video clip of the tiger attack to 13 million followers on his Truth Social platform on Tuesday.

The clip showed the tiger biting and clawing Chapman as he was sitting in the enclosure. At one point he wags his finger at the animal.

Trump signed the footage with: “Don’t ever mess with nature! President DJT.” It did not show Chapman being killed.

Later the president posted an AI-generated video of himself grinning and having fun by chasing and play fighting with the tiger. It is accompanied by the song The Lion Sleeps Tonight by The Tokens. It features Trump copying the pointing gesture made by Chapman and ends with him and the tiger hugging.

BBC News - Musk says US government may be behind slowdown of Ukraine drone speeds
Elon Musk has suggested that the US government may be behind restrictions on the speed at which some of Ukraine's weapons can travel and stay connected to SpaceX's Starlink internet network.
Potential for relations between Mr Musk and Mr Trump to sour?

Not looking good. This is a very dangerous time for Zelensky and Ukraine. They need Starlink, US real time satellite reconnaissance and interceptor missiles.

Very dangerous for Ukraine. They put their faith in a man who simply cannot be trusted.

It also puts the special relationship in a dangerous position. It almost sounds like that Sky documentary is heading towards coming true - Europe effectively at war with both Russia and the US as allies.

We can't win that war - it would be a choice between surrender and total nuclear annihilation, just as is presented to the PM at the end of that documentary series. (It's called The Wargame if you have Sky and want to watch it, or there's a podcast version which is slightly different and available free, but has the same basic themes).

I think the idea that that war is totally hopeless is probably something of an overstatement. It would certainly not be a good time for Europe but recent conflicts have shown the US military to not be as all conquering as some might have believed.

They can't even manage a decisive blow against Iran. Meanwhile European NATO posses superiority over Russia in most conventional force categories.

In any case, this is just another episode demonstrating that nothing that depends on the US can be depended upon.

I just hope the atlanticists in the UK and Europe accept this in time to do something about it.
Certainly there should be no more money for Starlink in Europe (for any purpose), and much more for missiles for Ukraine to hit Russia with.

The trouble is that when you have despots like Trump, Putin and ISIS-type leaderships there is a significant risk that an unhinged one will resort to a nuclear strike - Putin's henchmen have already threatened it.

Doesn't Ukraine currently rely on Starlink? In which case "we" had better get something as capable up and running as soon as possible... Except that with the recent stories of space/satellite warfare there will probably be pre-emptive strikes against all such defensive and offensive IT infrastructure at the outset.

They depend on it to some degree but it probably won't be decisive.

Developing a Starlink equivalent would cost tens of billions and take years, probably involving the development of a new inexpensive or super heavy launch vehicle.

Removing Starlink from the equation entirely by causing a low orbit Kessler syndrome would be comparatively cheap though....
For those wondering, Kessler syndrome is a cascading series of debris producing collisions that chain react until all the satellites in a given orbital regime are destroyed.

That would stop our enemies using it at least

I think that hitting the bot farms and reducing the impact that the disinformation can have during the mid-terms, and across Europe and the UK is the best think Ukraine can do for the present, especially if it means more democrat senators who can then start holding trumps arse to the fire

not by going after him directly, but by targeting his heads of department, and tying them to crimes they have committed, at his bequest, and making them face the likelihood of prison,

I don't think we'd come to that, even under Trump. The American public isn't happy about the way in Iran but that's to people 'who aren't the same religion are far away', can you imagine the uproar if Trump was even to make any attempt to enter in to a proper war with Europe?

Will we end up getting insults hurled at us and tariffs increased, absolutely guaranteed but I don't even think Trump could weather attempting a war.

I think that is worth doing, but if they can't stop the drones and glide bombs, let alone the ballistic and hypersonic missiles there won't be a Ukraine left to defend. Everything that Europe has needs to be moved to this front line, possibly even at the risk of leaving the rear undefended. It's a tragedy that Trump fell for Netanyahu's line and has consequently bankrupted the US in terms of weapons while simultaneously spreading war around the middle east and taking the pressure off Putin, in fact playing right into his hands.

one day, perhaps, except that the US won't recognise any international court or extradite anyone for anything. Can we see any US persons going after them for crimes abroad which would prolong and extend the divisions in the USA?

It did seem that after the massive and totally obvious drop in bot activity (yet for some reason the BBC went with the belief it wasn't real) Elon got extremely upset and it was the day after that Starlink suddenly stopped working in Ukraine.

I am not sure if Elon really had nothing to do with this (it could well be that Trump decided to do it) but given his angry posts, it certainly seems like he did - but now is perhaps backtracking and trying to throw Trump under the bus because it does look very bad for Elon and Starlink in general.

This in itself is going to be interesting, because I'm sure Trump needs Elon's help in the mid-terms - but Trump and the GOP in general must be somewhat upset to be blamed so openly.

I suspect Trump doesn't want any more data centres knocked out, so wants to limit Ukraine's ability to target them. In fact, I'm certain this is the primary (or only) reason.

We all saw with our own eyes how all the bots just disappeared as if by magic for 24 hours or so. It was blissful and also highlighted how the bot problem is even worse than many of us could have imagined.

Reform posted some outrageous things and they had no backup from the bots at all, meaning pretty much 100% of replies were attacks on Reform. I believe much the same can be said for things in the USA too.

Data centres are static targets and Ukraine knows where they are - apparently Yandex only just wiped their co-ordinates from the Web. So Ukraine can carry on hitting them, although without near-real-time updates on locations of air defences fewer drones will get through.

Ironically for Trump, the same applies to refineries.
