In other news, from my observations, it looks like the 96 is now using the Fastrack entrance into Darent Valley Hospital which if an agreement has been reached by TfL and KCC is excellent news. Those who use the route will know whilst this is only about 200 metres of road - if that - can potentially skip on the very worst days a 30 minute queue to get into the hospital!
It was a bit of a storm in a teacup.

Threat to Bluewater buses lifted after TfL and Kent settle ‘bus tax’ row

Buses from Woolwich will still serve the Bluewater Shopping Centre and Darent Valley Hospital after a row between Transport for London and Reform-run Kent County Council was resolved.

Two weeks ago The Greenwich Wire revealed that TfL was reviewing services on route 96 and two other buses because Kent wanted to impose a “significant increase” on charges to use a bus-only road leading to the giant mall – leading to MPs branding it a “bus tax”.

But the two sides have come to an agreement and TfL now says there are no plans to change the three services.

Go-Ahead London's Northumberland Park garage at the moment has been going through a rough patch for a couple of years. It seems to have gotten even worse since they took over three routes in quick succession. By a lot of metrics that TfL use (including trips/miles not operated due to lack of staff, lack of buses, lack of Company-induced errors) or things such as customer complaints they are by far the worst garage in London. The 456 unfortunately has been suffering for years with how appallingly bad the service has been and on that route it is usually the very poor and unreliable nature of the vehicles used.
Indeed they are, ever since the said garage got on the hands of the 123 from Arriva at the end of February, service has been atrocious on lot of their routes including the 123 and the 144 which was also won from Arriva in October 2025. Long gaps, frequent cancellations, buses being dumped at changeover points so at Tottenham Hale while on the mid route for the 123 and at Edmonton Green stand for the 144.

Wouldn't surprise me if Northumberland Park has the most number of complaints of any garages in London, not just because they have a lot of routes but mainly because of how poor the service has been on lot of their routes and it has got to the point I ended up sending a complaint to TfL over the 123 service at the end of July, while there have been small improvements since I made the complaint, but really it isn't to the standards I was seeing on the 123 under Arriva.

Not to mention they do have a number of awful Evosetis, namely their 16/66reg batches with hideously uncomfortable seats that are not suited to a longer routes (by London standards) like the 123, which I'm actively avoiding them as much as I can while travelling on any routes with those Evosetis. Manchester readers, you will understand where I am coming from with the issues you had with the same batch used by Go North West.

One recent positive to come from Go Ahead is that they are finally getting allocations in order over in east London! With the school routes leaving RR the 147 is finally fully hybrid bar a couple of stray 13 reg E400s but they are rare. Also the 330 over at DS now has a majority EH allocation well over a year into its tender.

I actually like the look of the MHV but do agree they are not comfortable.

Was the 16 the first route to get LTs. I always thought it was 24 or 38

From memory, LT's went as follows when new.....

LT9-LT40 - 24
LT41-LT68 - 11
LT69-LT94 - 9
LT95-LT117 - 390
LT118/9 - 11
LT120-LT147 - 148
LT148-LT171/4/5 - 10

LT317-LT354 - 137
LT355-LT390 - 55
LT391-LT415 - 15
LT416-LT456 - 12
LT457-LT463 were more top ups, I think LT457-9 were Go Ahead, LT460/1 London United, LT462/3 Stagecoach
LT464-LT477 - 73
LT478-LT487 - 88
LT488-LT500 - 73
LT501-LT512 - 88

LT543-LT563 - 16
LT564-LT601 - 149
LT602-LT640 - 159
LT641-LT663 - 168
LT664-LT715 - were 3/68 I think
LT716-LT744 - 59
LT745-LT767 - Metroline (91??)
LT768-LT788 - 211??
LT789-LT811 - Metroline (189?)
ST812 - 91
LT813-LT843 - 253??
LT844-LT902 - Go Ahead (21 & 76?)
LT903-LT953 - EL1/2/3
LT954-LT983 - 137
LT984-LT1000 - 267

Worse still, some Northumberland Park drivers are still taking wrong turnings in Ilford on the 123; this has been going on since they started. The 123 has been a shambles since they took it over, with dreadful gaps and frequent bunching.

When I was using the 96 last year it used that section only when the roundabout leading into Darent Valley Hospital was congested - if traffic conditions were fine it just took the normal way in. The occasional 428 would sneak down there too if the entrance was blocked. I was never quite sure if that was the official arrangement or not!

I notice that the 310 now has double deckers (Streetdeck Electroliners), something not possible before the route was diverted via Holloway, avoiding the low bridge next to Finsbury Park station!

Yes, I think that was always the plan, and now operating all day instead of finishing at 8pm. The re-routing will also partially compensate for lost capacity between Nags Head and Stamford Hill when the 254 is withdrawn.

DEL31 was out again on the 93 today. Interesting looking at Bustimes.org that it's just under a week since it was last used but also it's never been used on a Sunday, just Monday-Saturday.

In addition to my earlier post that journey times on the SL7 seem longer since the switch to electric vehicles, another thing I’ve noticed is that the time shown on the display is usually an hour slow. I boarded the bus this morning at 07:20, the display said 06:20. As we progressed it got to a point where the display said 06:53, then I noticed it didn’t seem to be changing. Checked my phone which now said 08:00am. Couple of minutes later the bus display suddenly changed straight to 07:03, which it was still showing when I got off the bus some fifteen minutes later.

Someone has replaced one of the bus capacitors with a flux capacitor?

The earlier proposals to cut back the 19 and 38 and introducing a new route 10 (see post #3918 on page 131) will be going ahead with Arriva London announcing via internal comms that they retained the 38/N38 and won the 10, both going to use existing NRM buses on 3-year contracts, with the changes commencing from 14 November. Route 19 still carries on with Arriva until 2028 while LOTS report the 91/N91 has been re-awarded to London General using existing hybrid deckers.

Why only 3 years for the 38 and 10? I assume it's because they're using the existing buses.
No route has been contracted for New Routemasters beyond 2030. One can only speculate about what this means for their future.

I imagine the same applies to all non electric buses in London. I'm sure other routes contracted with diesels and hybrids (Volvos, E400Hs etc) are also only being done with short contracts.

Routes 201, 419 and 667 have recently been awarded with diesels/hybrids as late as 2034

Some bit of trivia questions.
With EDs destined for Dartford taking up the allocation of the 194, are the DWs the last London Buses to still use manual blinds? (this question comes to mind after the Ts/ENXs had been withdrawn)
Anywhere else that uses Dayglo (Yellow) blinds? - I can think some of Metroline's 62 plate VWHs and of course the majority of Arriva's HVs at Wood Green.

What's the most awkward located depot, (i think i may have asked this question before) as i'm looking on Google Earth, & Arriva's Edmonton depot has to be one of them, situated between 2 rivers, the road in & out feels like a canal towpath, looks just wide enough for one vehicle that you hope nothing is going the other way as there is no way to pass.

Liverpool Street Station’s TfL Bus Station is now served only by two day routes (153, 344) and Night N133, which is surprising, and leaves plenty of room to fit in other routes.

Bus Stand capacity in London is always hard to find, so this lack of use seems odd.

I think part of the explanation for this is that pedestrianisation and other access restrictions on roads in the City has limited the number of approaches to/from the bus station. Old Broad Street (towards Bank) is the example that springs to mind.

London is huge and the stand space problems are all over the city, completely irrelevant that there happens to be an empty bus station somewhere if its nowhere near the problem

It's not really a big deal the bus station part of Liverpool Street is light on services, when you have plenty of services the otherside of Liverpool Street station on Bishopsgate.

Does anyone know if TfL removed their bus schedules page? If I Google it it no longer seems to show up.

We’ve had to take this dataset offline for the time being while we investigate what’s going on. Hopefully it won’t be for too long and I’ll keep you updated in this thread. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Thanks. Good to know about that forum as the thread actually answered some of my questions about the oddities on the schedules page recently.

More TfL bus restructuring has gone up for consultation today. I won’t quote whole of each page as they’re all too long to fit in this post but in summary:

Isle of Dogs: D7 withdrawn and SL4, 135, D6 and 277 rerouted to partially replace it
Demand for bus services has fallen and we want the service we provide to better match usage so that we ensure we are making good use of our resources across London.

As part of this, we are proposing to withdraw route D7 and restructure routes 135, 277 and D6 to ensure most journeys can still be taken. In addition, the SL4 would be re-routed to serve the new Wood Wharf development. See how these routes operate today by viewing the current route map.

Both routes D3 and D8 would continue to serve the Isle of Dogs as they currently do. Below is a map showing our proposal for bus routes D6, 135, 277 and SL4.

South West: C3 withdrawn, partially replaced by 74 diversion to Clapham Junction instead of Putney, 430 increased frequency
We are proposing to restructure routes C3, 74 and the 430. As part of this restructure, we would withdraw route C3 and restructure the route 74 to continue to provide a service along the route of the C3. Therefore, it would no longer run between Putney and Earl’s Court but would be extended to Clapham Junction.
Subject to the outcome of the consultation we would also make some changes to the frequencies. We would increase frequency on route 74 from on Sunday mornings from buses running every 20 mins to every 12 minutes and we would also increase frequency on route 430 so buses run every 12 minutes on all days of the week.

Route N74 would remain unchanged.

Elephant & Castle: 415 withdrawn, partially replaced by 333 extension to Old Kent Road
We are proposing to withdraw bus route 415 and extend bus route 333.
Bus route 415 currently operates between Old Kent Road (Tesco) and Tulse Hill station. Bus route 333 currently operates between Tooting Broadway Station and Elephant & Castle. See how these routes operate today by viewing the current route map.

We are proposing to extend bus route 333 from Elephant & Castle to Old Kent Road (Tesco) via the routeing of the current bus route 415. Below is a map showing our proposal for bus routes 415 and 333.

Thanks for highlighting. For the D7 withdrawal, is the implication that the frequency of other routes would stay the same? Maybe I’ve missed it, but that doesn’t seem to be stated in the consultation documents.

The C3 and D7 were both proposed for withdrawal as part of TfL’s 2021 Central London Bus Review. Although given a stay of execution the report issued at the time simply said that the changes weren’t being proceeded with at that time.

I think the D7 is the final heir to the original D1 Docklands Clipper, which was the first transport route specifically targeted at the Docklands, at the start of redevelopment. From Poplar, round and indeed through 'The Island' (Isle of Dogs) and up to Mile End station, which was the initial Underground focus and at one stage was going to be where the DLR might run to. It had its own single-decked buses with specific branding on them, at a time when everything else was just painted in corporate standard. They never ran frequently enough to be useful though.

The bus routes round The Island have long been a bit of a mess, and in the proposals above it seems another change leaves a route starting at the Island's Asda supermarket, no longer the shopping focus, and going by such a convoluted route it's quicker to walk in the opposite direction and pick up the same bus a while later as it passes through Canary Wharf on its way out to civilisation ... :)
