Apols if I've missed something, but why would Halton, which is part of the LCR, stay outside the franchising scheme? Related to that, why replace the well-known Merseytravel brand with the meaningless "Metro"? I have relatives on the 82/82A route at Cressington who might be bending my ear as someone who knows about buses!

Because Halton don't contribute any funding to Merseytravel, why they are staying outside franchising, it's why Merseytravel products are not valid in the Halton area either, even though Halton is in LCR.
Thanks. I didn't know that. So effectively it's just a Merseyside scheme. The timetable suggests 82A is run from the Runcorn end so it will remain commercial, but 82 will be franchised. I hope the ticketing can be sorted out.

Because, whilst they are part of the LCR, they are not part of Merseytravel.
One reason is that people get in a complete muddle in the difference between Merseyrail and Merseytravel.

I'm not entirely sure it's particularly wise to admit to and justify your fare evasion in this way. Just because you did it, and a driver didn't pull you up about it, it doesn't make it right. What you did was no different at all to short faring on the railways and defrauding the railway is very much looked down upon. With buses under franchising, they still need to cover the cost of operations through farebox or subsidy, and every penny not met from the farebox, will come in the form of higher taxation or reduced services.
With that in mind, I find it baffling how you are so happy to almost boast about your fare evasion......

Merseytravel have been in ongoing discussions with Halton Borough Council to compensate them for taking over responsibility for the borough's transport needs for a few years now - a major issue is the travel pass that the rest of the LCR get at 60 - this currently doesn't apply to Halton, and the financial burden this would create for resident through a precept on their Council Tax is something Halton Council is resisting to adhere to. However, all the borough's bus stops are in Merseytravel's corporate style
