Just got my final offer for Trainee Driver at Sheffield, starting 12/10/26 Contract to arrive in the next 5 days! Anyone else starting in Leeds for training?
Received 75% and it says i’ve met the threshold. Did well on the Perceptual and Resilience but not great on safety. Got 0 wrong answers on safety but not a high score really… Hoping
I've previously passed the psychometrics for a different TOC earlier this year but Northern said in the job advert that it needs to be passed at an enhanced standard. Does any one know if I will have to re-take the psychometrics again if I manage to get that far? About to do the MAKI test for the Newcastle vacancy now.

I'm pretty sure its just the dots you need at enhanced for northern? So i'm guessing you will just do that, to meet northern enhanced standard. Don't quote me on that though.
Also did you do you MMI interview at your psychometrics?
That’s a good sign then!
I only ask about the MMI section because I’ve spoken to a few people who did their psychometrics with Northern and passed everything, but only achieved the national standard on the Group Bourdon. Because Northern require the enhanced standard, they weren’t able to progress through to the MMI at the end.
I completed the test this evening, my Northern portal has updated to ‘You have met the threshold for Trainee Train Driver assessment’.
That’s a positive after having my previous application fail at the first hurdle, just hoping my score is enough to actually make it through.
Good luck everyone.
It sounds like there is an absolute minimum cut off of 75%. All the people above that will then be standardised after everyone has completed the tests and only a certain top percentile from within that standardised group will go through to the next stage. So, if you got 80%, you will only go through if the majority of people above the minimum cut off were in the 75-79 bracket. If there were lots of people above 80, then you might not go through even though you 'passed".
Is there anywhere to practice for the maki test online anywhere? Ive been looking for practice tests but not having much luck, or anywhere i can get some reading information to help with what will be asked
There's not really much you can practice for TBF. One part is a spot the pattern test, and the other two parts are just standard situational judgement ones that you just have to answer honestly. It's pretty basic

Yeah, just completed it earlier. Got 80, so have got above the minimum absolute limit. However, I think we will only know once all applicants have done the test whether that is enough to get to the next stage

I have no idea, didn't give me a score. I just got an email to say 'thank you, your maki results have been received'. I completed the test at 12.44am and then received an email on the same day at 10.12am inviting me to a psychometric test 8 days later in Leeds.

I personally think each test in the psychometrics is well explained. I suppose it’s down to understanding if you struggle. I am not saying the tests are easy but they are designed to make you understand the method and use it accordingly. If you overthink or over complicate things, you panic and that’s the end of that. Listen, understand the rules and so on. If not, ask, no question is a stupid on
Paying attention to the instructions given on the day and following them in my opinion is part of the test and these forums although are a great resource they shouldn’t be here to help people pass a test they possibly otherwise wouldn’t.
Part of the job as a train driver is communication. Being able to be given clear instructions and then following them sometimes in pressure situations.
Nice surprise trying to do the tests, you need a camera and mic, and my laptop is in the work office, so now I am scrambling to get a loan of 1, because my home computer is a desktop

Got a crap laptop, I thought it had updated after an hour of waiting, and it decided to drop an update mid Resilience and cost me 2 minutes, thankfully I got 75% after rushing to finish, hopefully it's enough.

Just check my application, and it states "You have met the threshold for the Trainee Train Driver Assessment." Woohoo

If you didn't pass to enhanced with the other TOC then sadly you'll have to resit it with Northern. Usually just the group bourdon and the dials that needs to be to enhanced if I remember right.
I completed my Maki test for Northern today. When I was completing the test, I encountered a lot of problems. The first was when I was doing the perceptual test. It would not allow me to go to the next question. For this I had to keep going back to the previous question and then try moving forward. This I had to do a few times before it let me move on.
Then when I went on to both the resilience and safety test, the button to move to the next page kept spooling and I didn’t go back this time, I had to wait. I got so frustrated that I got my phone and recorded the problems. To move to the next question, it took me over a minute.
I know that I need to contact Maki and Northern, but I would like advice on who to contact first and if anyone had anything similar.
