Do we have an accurate number of people waiting in the south now? 8-10 courses next year is the rumour. So just trying to build some hope up I guess ha

We don’t need to start a course within the two years right - but be offered a place in one, which could be past the 2 years, is that correct?
Yes thats correct. As long as youre offered a position before your drop out date you'll be fine.
There are a lot of courses planned for next year. In the present training group 4/5 of these were offered just a short time before they were due to drop out. Also they were interviewed for mainline but offered Valleys.
For all those waiting id say hold on tight things are looking positive with movement in the pool x

I'm currently sat in the talent pool like many others. I interviewed for mainline. Do you know if there would be an option to swap to valleys if they need the staff?
You can be offered a position on Cardiff mainline or valleys. For me it was between Cardiff and Carmarthen.

I did the exact same thing. But did not get a reply.
Sometimes things get missed. Don’t be afraid to chase a reply. Politely of course.

Hey guys, newly qualified valleys conductor here. To answer your questions on valleys and mainline depots, once you get in , you’ll most likely be asked to go on valleys as we’re currently extremely short on valleys and mainline is more or less full. Hence why next year the 8-10 courses are all valleys courses. A mix of Cardiff, Rhymney, Treherbert and possibly Barry. Hope this is useful info. Good luck to you all waiting and hope to see you out soon!

Thanks a lot for the info. Definitely giving me more hope now. My time will be up in March so fingers crossed I’ll be on one of those courses.

You’d hope they’d bring some courses forward mind if they’re that low but I’m sure there’s more to it than that.

Thanks mate - if you don’t mind me asking, when did you pass your assessment centre and how much notice were you given before the start of your course?

Hey, that’s no problem at all. So I got invited to the assessment center on the 18th of March 2025. Then got a phone call a day or 2 later to say I’d been successful and was placed into the pool. Around 7 months later in October, recruitment called me to offer me a start date for valleys for the 26th of January 2026. So all in all 10 months which is pretty good considering.

Mad to think I was only 8 days after your assessment day and haven’t heard a peep. Maybe that’s a scoring problem or they had an intense week of assessment days and took on loads. But I’m definitely more hopeful I’ll get the call at some point early next year now mind

Ah I was the 10th March last year and haven't received a call, it must come down to scoring

Again, from what I was told, I think it was down to scoring potentially and some other factors I’m not too sure about

Hopefully you will all hear something soon!

I like to look at this thread every now and then but also be aware TFW recruitment look at this forum too.

Aaanyway....... CVL next year, looking at 70+ newbies required. Limited number of trainers, generally 8 per course, also other factors influence how many courses can run concurrently, there are other types of training required during 2027 with the On board function, which also requires trainer resource, so be patient.

That is all. :D

Thanks for this - out of curiosity, what role do you occupy? You seem to be very in the loop. Is the 70+ figure something you’ve heard or guesstimate? Patience is something many of us have lived and breathed. Lots of people are due to time out of the pool in Q1 of 2027, so there’s a collective angst.

I think there are also alot of people waiting for the opportunity to apply for the role to who isn't in the pool.

So hopefully there will be opportunities for others interested to apply for a conductor or at least join the pool once it's been used to fill any up coming vacancies
