It can be worse than that.

A few years ago I was taken ill not long before being due to start work.
Result: My out and back trains were cancelled, along with the return journey that my outward stock would've made, and the outward journey of the stock I should've brought back.
Four cancelled trains when I should've only been driving two.
That was quite a straightforward diagram with only two legs.
Luckily I am rarely off sick!
No way they'd have been able to make any dent in operational procedures in a month. If anything, Arriva on their way out might have taken their eye off the ball with regards to recruitment...

But the banks and building societies are not! And many is the time I have been in a supermarket, not even on a Bank Holiday, and seen few if any staffed checkouts actually open.

This week’s Mildmay cancellations begin due to ‘more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time’. I suppose this may also have been the case last week too but the shortage of drivers last week might have outweighed the shortage of trains.

I notice quite a few 378s on the Watford DC line though over the past few days (2 or 3 per day). Perhaps Mildmay's 378 are being used on the Watford DC?

Stated reason - earlier broken down train.
I’m assuming the relevant exec team are trying to resolve this seemingly daily issue of one thing or another.
Embarrassing for TfL.

Because there’s been a whole week of problems with nothing to do with the infrastructure, so naturally it’s in the spotlight.
It was awful in 2024ish but seemed to have settled down recently until this.
I use it frequently and in fairness most problems have been out of the operator's control as they tend to be related to freight or infrastructure failures. This is different, I can't remember crew shortages like this ever occurring before even pre Overground.

I have never seen only 33% of trains running on the underground due to lack of staff.

Just as bad today, 5 consecutive Westbound trains are cancelled, leaving a 45-minute gap from Stratford from 1321 to 1406, not bad for a service that should run every 7-8 mins.
This seems to be continuing. Looks like about 80% of Mildmay line trains are cancelled today due to "shortage of staff". Looks to have spiralled since First took over. Coincidence? TfL mismanagement? Having built up a strong ridership and image it seems the Overground is now unfit.
