I'd expect that for at least the rest of the week to get the 150s (perceived as more reliable) onto the Newquay line for Boardmasters
150s are better for Boardmasters being large people movers. The larger doors equals better access, plus for those who can and want to risk it can convey surfboards (though Boardmasters seems to have largely forgotten its roots these days) as only boards can be carried on those and the Night Riviera now. So it won’t just be for reliability but practicality too.

Ah yes, very true!

It would appear that putting 150s vice 175s on the Newquay branch has not prevented a broken down train from interrupting the mid-Cornwall metro!

175002 did it's Paignton trip then disappears at Exeter platform 5 being cancelled to Plymouth.
It never went on the platform. It went onto depot at Exeter. It also spent the night at depot too rather than returning to Laira. Currently booked to resume training runs starting 5Z46 Exeter (TMD) - Plymouth

175101 on 2C20 cancelled at Menheniot 'due to a problem with the train'.

Now running back to Plymouth empty as 5C20 (via Liskeard).

While there clearly have been serious faults with the train's ability to move, it seems as though most faults are minor ones that don't hinder movement, but prevent safe passenger service operation.

Because of the software? Why can't a faulty door be locked and the train continues in service?

Depends which door and which coach, if it stays in service will depend on what the ‘Defective On Train Equipment’ matrix says about the combination.

A possible door fault bought the unit to a stand betwixt St Germans and Menheniot.

A bodyside door or cab door fault bringing the unit to a stand would be a loss of door interlock for whatever reason ? One incident we experienced in the past was an external emergency access green handle being momentarily dislodged from its magnet because both surfaces were dirty causing poor magnetic effect but this occurred at high speed when 2 units were passing each other in different directions.

If a bodyside door was the cause of the loss of door interlock, which is unusual when moving, it can be locked out of use to regain interlock and continue in service until end of day unless it was a 50 or 79 car No1 end and in this case it had to be withdrawn from service.
If a DCU had crashed that would be evident on the TMS as it wouldn`t be reporting, tripping and resetting its circuit breaker would usually bring it back to life but we don`t know the circumstances.

A clue to the emergency brake application can be found in the OTMR download.

I have had to substitute my 9 coach IET for a packed 4 coach voyager full of noisy foreign exchange students because 175115 appears to have snuffed it at St Germans.

I might be sorry I have asked this but here goes  what are kill counts ?
Video game term usually, but I'm guessing it's used in the context "175s have broken down and taken all these trains with them".

Then again, I don't know really? Depends exactly what context it was meant in

That is the context I meant it in, my apologies I felt like a little joke was needed to lift the pain of another 175 failure! :D

Thanks for the clarification.

Quite a few delay minutes I expect.

Unable to maintain its main air it seems.

Assuming that the unit was checked and cleared for air leaks including brakes, suspension and auxiliaries and possibly an air stand up test which are notoriously difficult to achieve at times on the other occasions that it appears to have been unable to maintain its main res that 83G/84D reports it suggests an intermittent compressor or control system fault, providing that there are no intermittent 3 phase problems ? Part of the control system can be isolated by bypassing R-CMMA and this involves operating the "compressor control inhibit" switch in the 50 car 3901 cupboard if this works the downside is that the compressor continually runs. There is another scenario that the compressor oil is overheating and tripping the compressor oil over temperature switch.

In the past we have had toilet "ejectors" fail and this will drain the main res pretty quickly but the air pipework to the ejectors was modified with a smaller "choke" to stop this scenario, it is very difficult to hear air escaping through a faulty ejector as its muffled as it goes the the odour filter and out to atmosphere.

I believe the train I was waiting for, 1Z92, reached Plymouth 102 minutes late.

Oooo pretty painful and expensive.

The most common largest delay minutes penalties we incurred usually involved compressor issues.

Having said that very few and far between.

Except for 115, the 3 cars seem to be out and about more. Seem reliable. Maybe for the end of August they might actually turn up at Barnstaple and Okehampton.

If there's one thing you can rely on: Would you have your car serviced at Wolverton?

Is it the 23 June since the last train came from Wolverton?
