Let's have an update.
At the moment, 378215 is still at Widnes getting its front done.
378219, 378255, 378224, 378137, 378138, 378139, 378141, 378143, 378144, 378145, 378148, 378149, 378151, 378153 definitely still have yellow fronts.
378140, 378142, 378146, 378152 and 378154 possibly still have the yellow fronts but I'm not 100% sure on these ones.

The whole units are being repainted, not just the fronts. And I assume by "Yellow Front" you mean the unrefurbished units?

Yeah, that's what I mean. I refer to them by the fronts because, to be frank, the interiors feels the same, and the grab poles just seem like a darker orange. As a regular user of the 378s, only the exteriors strike me out as 'different' so that's why.

I try and keep a record of these, as a regular user of the 378s too.

In the current round of refurbishment, only 378/2s have been done so far:

Remaining (7): 4/9/11/19/24/55/57 - but note 204 and 211 already carry the new livery despite no trip to Widnes/Ilford yet.

Done (30): 1/2/3/5/6/7/8/10/12/13/14/15/16/17/18/20/21/22/23/25/26/27/28/29/30/31/32/33/34/56

The special liveries on 205 and 230 already lost.

Of the 378/1s, all are still to be done, but 135/136/147 and 150 carry the new livery already.

Isn't that like the second or third time it's gone up there? Last I recall it returned to London on July 7th 2025 from Widnes and nothing of importance changed. Only thing that changed was the unit number changing from where the refurbished ones have theirs (which 209 got in 2018), back to the original front.
Even after the trips, no repainting was done and just movement of stickers. What's up with this unit?

Whatever it went for before, it's definitely going for refurbishment this time.

378209 has never been to widnes yet. 378209 had some number changes prior to GOB electrification as a 4-car, then it had a poppy wrap more recently, and vehicle numbers were on the side and nose end numbers reinstated. only had an partial internal upgrade.

Internal upgrades are due to start in the next couple of months in Ilford.

209 presumably working back on 5Q60 Widnes - Wembley today, but no northbound run. Rest to be done at Ilford now? Are any of them there already?

Does anyone have an update on the 378 refurbishment - nothing has happened as far as I can see since 378209 returned from Widnes on May 23rd, leaving 204/11/19/24/55/57 of the 378/2s still to be done (although 204 and 211 already wear the revised livery).

I haven't seen anything reported going to Ilford yet?

I'm personally pleased as I far prefer the newer one.

I notice this photo in a Rail article about London Overground and First Rail London, that the 378 has a full orange front. Looks much better, have the lights been upgraded now?

Interesting. Certainly more consistent with the 710 livery.

If that's happening l wonder who is paying to improve the lights? Perhaps First if there are long-term savings involved? Will the already refurbished 378s have this retrofitted too?

All the refurbished ones have orange fronts already, it’s just a yellow vinyl sticker over the front of it at the moment.

There's another bit not applied yet as well; the orange trim running just above the blue part. It still felt a bit off and I was staring at it trying to work out what it was! I quite like it without the trim myself.

Compare post #106 with this picture of 378150:

This is in tomorrow, Rail Adventure operated not LO, perhaps the first off to Ilford for refurb? I will try to see it (if it runs) and update.

So the 5L87 Wembley - Ilford this morning turned out to be 378202, and this one had visited Widnes in 2025. Anyone know what is going on?
